Original Characters

  • Born Unlucky:
    • Alicia has an unimpressive 10% luck growth, on par with Deirdre, and it certainly shows; by the end of in-game chapter 1, she already has a reputation for getting into trouble, from getting held hostage (twice!) to being trapped in a burning building after going back in to check on her patients.
    • Riona and Conall aren't much better: they have among the lowest luck growths in the second generation, with only those with "fixed" stats being lower.
  • Playing with Fire: Due to being descended from House Velthomer, all three of them have fire magic in their blood, though only Riona and Conall have the ability to conjure and manipulate fire.
    Alicia
The chief healer of Sigurd's army, younger half-sister of Arvis of Velthomer, and the perspective character of the first generation.
  • Birds of a Feather: A platonic variant with Sigurd; both of them are ultimately highly idealistic people that seek to help everyone they can, even when well aware that doing so may not be possible, will often take highly reckless actions to do so (Much to Quan's exasperation), and are highly oblivious to the extent that others care about them.
  • Cool Big Sis: Is regarded as such by many of the younger members of the army, due to being supportive and patient with them, and keeping an eye on their physical and mental well beings. So far, the list includes Azelle, Oifey, Ethlyn, Lex, Finn, Shannan, Dew, Lachesis, Tailtiu and Silvia.
Alicia: "I feel like I'm collecting younger siblings."
  • Damsel in Distress: A combination of being the army's chief healer, her oath of pacifism, and tendency to find herself in many dangerous situations leads to her getting held hostage rather frequently.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Downplayed, due to her rather reserved personality, but she does snark when particularly irritated or exasperated.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Alicia started off distant from the majority of the army, not out of cruelty, but rather due to hiding her Fjalar holy blood to protect Arvis and Azelle, along with the assumption that she would be left behind by them after the Verdane campaign, as others have many times before. The only exception to this was Azelle, who knew she was his sister. It took a concentrated effort from the others, particularly Sigurd, to get her to open up over time. By the time in-game chapter 2 starts, she's far more open with the group, though she remains rather reserved.
  • The Gadfly: Downplayed, but she does have fun teasing those she cares about on occasion, such as Finn.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: She's a healer, not a knight, but the point still stands; she believes the world is a mess and is terribly unfair, but she also does not see that as a reason to not try to make it better anyway.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Manages to achieve this with no less than three people:
    • A few people, including Dew, thought Azelle was interested in her, with most people at the time being unaware that they are siblings.
    • A lot of people assumed that Sigurd and Alicia were romantically involved, due to the two spending a lot of time with each other, Sigurd having a reputation for lack of romantic interest in anyone, and him arguably being the biggest influence in helping her initially come out of her shell, along with being each others' primary confidant. Even after Sigurd and Deirdre get engaged, according to Chulainn, a fifth of the rumours assume that Alicia is Sigurd's mistress.
    • Due to Deirdre being both enigmatic and particularly close to Alicia, another fifth of the rumours think that they are romantically involved, despite Deirdre being Sigurd's fiancee by that point.
    • Of course, as a consequence of the above two points:
Alicia: Dare I ask what the remaining three-fifths think?
    Chulainn: They share you, obviously.
  • Mistaken Age: Downplayed. Due to her serene and mature demeanour, she comes off as somewhat older than expected, with both Lewyn and Erinys mistaking her for being in her mid-twenties, rather than being literally twenty.
Lewyn: Fine, fine, I yield. I know better than to disrespect my elders.
Alicia: Am I older than you?
Lewyn: Aren't you in your mid-twenties?
Alicia: No, I turned twenty a few months before this all started.
Lewyn: ...Wait, we're the same age?!
  • Mundane Utility: In the words of the author: "Most people with Holy Blood use the HP boost as a means to soak up damage. Alicia uses it to power through multiple all-nighters in a row and still be perfectly functional." What makes this particularly baffling is the fact that she can outlast Arvis, who has both Major Holy Blood and was using stimulants at the time, with nothing more than energy-boosting teas.
  • Obliviously Beautiful: A combination of being very conventionally attractive (to the point of being listed with having the Charm skill), a childhood with most people ignoring her existence, low self esteem in most things that aren't medical related, and generally not caring about appearances beyond looking put-together for the sake of her job means that she is utterly perplexed that her looks attract quite a bit of attention, even from other girls.
  • Oblivious to Love: Her isolated and affectionless childhood means that she has generally has issues comprehending that most people like her for herself, and not simply what she can do for them. As such, she is not only left unaware of people finding her attractive until it is spelled out to her (and even then she thinks they've gone crazy), but she also underestimates how much people care about her physical and mental well-being.
  • Official Couple: With Chulainn.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Sigurd and Deirdre in particular, partly due to knowing the full circumstances behind their relationship.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Sigurd's red; rather ironic, given Sigurd's blue hair contrasts Alicia's red hair.
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • She and Sigurd are aware right from the start about Deirdre's Loptous blood, and thus take measures to keep quiet about it, fearful of the potential consequences that would erupt from anyone discovering such.
    • Through treating the victims of the Poison spell, she discovered the truth about the "plague" in Evans: the people were killed to force Verdane into war with Granville. Only Sigurd and Jamke were told, and the latter requested to keep it quiet, out of fear of the potential hunts that would erupt in response.
    • Before she and Chulainn started dating, he revealed to her his past, from the fall of Sophara as Setanta, to joining the army as Chulainn.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: While looking for Ayra for her checkup, she accidentally overheard Quan questioning Ayra about the Darna Massacre, and thus knows of the truth of the situation. She chose to keep quiet about knowing in the first place, aware that the conversation was meant to be private.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Alicia generally is rather perceptive and has very few blind spots ... but unfortunately for everyone, one of them is Arvis, which means that even with direct and consistent communication with him, she doesn't realise anything is off until it's far too late to stop the Belhalla Massacre from occurring.
  • Ship Tease: With Chulainn; both of them are particularly concerned with each other's well-being, even beyond the fact that he was hired to be her bodyguard. They eventually start dating after chapter 20.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: Is stated to have green eyes, inherited from her mother, and has the same red hair as her brothers.
  • The Stoic: Maintains a "healer-mask" of calm for practically all situations. It gets Deconstructed later on, since constantly keeping her calm means that she can't respond properly when the situation would require her to call for help, such as getting held hostage.
  • Unknowingly in Love: It takes quite a while for her to figure out her feelings for Chulainn, even with the fact that she's the person closest to him in the army, and having actively stated she enjoys his company. Justified, since romance is not something she ever expected in her life, on top of her limited social experience. It took Deirdre giving her a romance novel for her to read to be able to 'diagnose' her current situation.
  • Unluckily Lucky: She is simultaneously unfortunate enough to end up in hazardous situations on a regular basis such as being held hostage multiple times and getting shot by a poisoned arrow, and fortunate enough to survive them with minimal repercussions.
  • The Workaholic: Lex calls her a champion among workaholics, on par with Arvis and Lombard, and the statement isn't unfounded:
    • Alicia initially had severe workaholism tendencies out of desperation of wanting to be useful to the army, a refusal to get close to anyone under the expectation that she would be left behind after the campaign, and to distance herself from her hedonistic father. Sigurd got understandably concerned when he found out she regularly works late into the night to do chores, to say nothing of actual emergencies.
    • Even after being assured that she has a place with her friends, she continues them once in-game chapter 2 starts, to catch up on the required medicine stockpile for the conflict, and to give her all for those she cares about. The others attempt to defy this by making sure she gets regular breaks, and especially to prevent her from pulling more all-nighters than necessary.

    Riona (Caitriona)
The daughter of Alicia and Chulainn, and twin sister of Conall. A member of the Scions of Light, the children of Sigurd's army that fell during the Belhalla Massacre.
  • The Charmer: Has the Charm skill, and has managed to charm her way into and out of trouble multiple times, to the point that her friends jokingly suggested using it to infiltrate with Diarmuid. It worked, much to their disbelief and exasperation.
  • Stepford Smiler: Often fakes a smile to keep up morale, especially when the others can't do so.
Someone had to be the cheerful one. It might as well be me.

    Conall
The son of Alicia and Chulainn, and twin brother of Riona. Was captured and taken to Belhalla at an early age, where he grew up with Julius, Julia, Cyas and Ishtar.
  • Stepford Snarker: Often comes off as snarky and unconcerned, but in truth is deathly terrified of what could happen to his loved ones during the war, especially since he has people he cares about on both sides. It doesn't help that he had to watch Julius, his younger cousin that he adores, become increasingly unhinged ever since he touched the Loptous tome.

First Generation

    Sigurd of Chalphy

    Deirdre (Diadora)

  • Adaptational Intelligence: Downplayed; her original incarnation focused more on her personality and Barrier Maiden status, with little mention of her intelligence. Here, it's made more explicit that she can be as conniving as Quan if necessary, and is an avid researcher of magic theory like Azelle.
  • Birds of a Feather:
    • With Azelle, being one of the few magic users in the army, along with being enthusiastic researchers of magic theory and Holy Blood.
    • With Chulainn, of all people, due to their similar tastes in romantic partners and strategies.
  • Guile Heroine: As inspired by her Oosawa counterpart, and due to the people of the Spirit Forest being relatively pragmatic and sacrificial, Deirdre is more willing to go for brutal and pragmatic methods compared to her husband, such as suggesting to off Elliot by making it look like an accident.
  • Mysterious Waif: Her status as one is brought to attention here.
  • Odd Friendship: With Chulainn. They initially interacted through their relationships with Alicia, and ultimately hit it off through discussions on pragmatic strategies, helped by Chulainn having a soft spot for her. Silvia notes that she's probably the only person he would call a friend apart from Alicia.

    Chulainn (Setanta of Sophara)

    Prince Kurth

  • Ascended Extra: In the original game, he was The Ghost and a Sacrificial Lamb that barely interacted with the main cast. Here, he's Alicia's Parental Substitute, and writes to her frequently.
  • Developing Doomed Characters: Due to being the closest person that Alicia has to a parental figure that was also alive long enough to see her again as an adult, he ends up getting significantly more time in the limelight, but it's also apparent his canonical fate is still in store.
  • Parental Substitute: To Alicia, to the point that Alicia once called him "Papa" when she was still living with them.

Second Generation

For the original depictions of these characters, click here.
  • Ascended Extra: In the original game, due to their flexible parentage and optional playability/existence, most of the second generation had fairly minimal characterisation. In the series, their characters are heavily expanded upon, fleshing them out and making them more distinct.
    • Downplayed with the children replacements, who would never show up at all if the first generation characters were paired up. Here, they act as Recurring Extras.
