Main Protagonists

     Hector Protector
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/images_3_32.jpeg
The main character, a dolphin. He is the most down-to-Earth of the group (although Ming and Ranjeet come close, but aren't quite there due to Ming's snark and Ranjeet being a bit easily distracted). Despite being smart and logical, he still sometimes has a lapse in judgment because he's still quite young.

  • Ambiguous Situation: Is "Protector" really his last name?
  • Mister Strangenoun: If "Protector" really is his last name, then it's a rather unusual last name.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He felt bad for signing Tama up for a game that turned out to be run by the Info Gang, until Kui told him it wasn't his fault.
  • Vague Age: He's clever, and he's older than Tama, but he's still not an adult so it's unknown how old he is.

     Ranjeet
Sprat's best friend, a crab and the most technologically-competent member of the main group. He is very energetic and likes clowns and video games.

  • Butt-Monkey: Apparently, he's a "magnet for trouble".
  • Geek: Likes computers and video games. Ming actually suggested "Geek" as a username for him.
  • Genki Boy: He's very enthusiastic, especially if clowns or games are involved.
  • In-Series Nickname: "Super Crab", which he uses as a username.
  • Mr Fix It: Downplayed. While he couldn't fix Sprat's father's faulty computer but he is known to be good at computer repair in general.
  • Vague Age: He hangs out with only Aretha (although Aretha could be an adult) and has a relatively low voice, but he's frequently stated to be a schoolkid and is just learning about cybersafety.

     Sprat
Ranjeet's best friend, a fish. Sprat is nearly as enthusiastic as Ranjeet and likes listening to music.

  • Butt-Monkey: Ming calls him, along with Ranjeet, a "magnet for trouble".
  • Genki Boy: Nearly as enthusiastic as Ranjeet.
  • A Lizard Named "Liz": His name, "Sprat", means "little fish".
  • Vague Age: Is older than Tama, has a higher voice than Ranjeet, and is allowed to be home alone, so his age is a mystery.

     Ming
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/images_4_04.jpeg
A smart, but rather uptight and snarky, clam and the only female in the main group (Kui appears a lot, but she's not really one of the group).

  • Crying Critters: She appears to cry (although it's hard to tell underwater) when she sees a photo of herself with a moustache and glasses.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Tends to scoff and make snide remarks.
  • Embarrassment Plot: In "You're Not Alone", she's deeply embarrassed by a photo of herself with a mustache and glasses.
  • In-Series Nickname: She uses "Clamgirl" as a username.
  • Little Miss Snarker: Is very snarky and probably not any older than fifteen.
  • Not So Above It All: While she usually just gets exasperated if something doesn't go her way, she actually gets sad in "You're Not Alone" when she sees a photo of herself with a mustache and glasses.
  • One of the Boys: Her closest friends are all boys.
  • Vague Age: While she's snarky and seems to be more worldly than the others, she's much smaller than her mother and appears to be a schoolkid.

     Tama
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/images_5_6.jpeg
A jellyfish who is the youngest and most naive of the group.

  • Badass Unintentional: He helped defeat the Info Gang by simply overhearing them.
  • Cheerful Child: Is the youngest and he's very cheery.
  • Constantly Curious: Maybe not constantly, but he's the most inquisitive.
  • Electric Jellyfish: When he stings, electrical sound effects play and there appears to be a spark of electricity.
  • Genki Boy: Pretty excitable.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Is the youngest, most impressionable member of the group and has blue eyes.
  • Kid Hero: He overhears the Info Gang's plan, leading to their arrest.
  • Literal-Minded: He thinks that "strong" passwords have big muscles and that when Constable Solosolave thinks something is "afoot", it means he wants to investigate Ranjeet's foot.
  • Vague Age: He's the youngest, but we don't know exactly how old he is.

     Kui
An old whale, who often gives Hector (but so far, no one else) advice. She's pretty mysterious; whenever she appears, the surroundings become surrealist and she's described as a "spirit" but doesn't seem ghostly. She doesn't get introduced in the intro but is listed as a main protagonist because her character profile is in the town hall and she's seen in the background of the intro.

     Constable Solosolave
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/images_6_0.jpeg
The police chief and a seahorse. Frequently talks about his "policing senses" and is a noble officer.

Antagonists

     Bella
A girl fish who appears in "You're Not Alone", having made a photo of Ming with a mustache and glasses. At first, she seems like a stereotypical "mean girl" bully, but then it turns out that she did not mean to offend Ming and only made the altered photo as a joke.

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Wears a belt for no reason.
  • Alpha Bitch: Subverted. She seems like a stereotypical snobby girl but turns out not to be.
  • The Bully: Subverted. She appears to cyberbully Ming, but then she apologizes and it's revealed that it was only a joke gone wrong.
  • Hero Antagonist: She's an antagonist because she caused the conflict and offended Ming, but she didn't intend to do it.

     Brooke
Another fish who follows Bella around.

  • Beta Bitch: Subverted. Appears to be a stereotypical "mean girl sidekick" but actually didn't mean to offend Ming at all.
  • The Bully: Subverted. Like Bella, she didn't intend to bully Ming.
  • Hero Antagonist: Like Bella, she doesn't mean to cause the conflict and offends Ming, but does so anyway.
  • I Don't Think That's Such a Good Idea: Was the first one to doubt the photo.

     Squid
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/images_7_5.jpeg
The leader of the Info Gang, who got arrested not only for his crimes of stealing information and selling it, but also for making spam (which is illegal in Silicon Deep) and "inking without a license".

     Humphrey, Wazza, Clownfish, and Aussie
The rest of the Info Gang. Humphrey is a large, purple fish, Wazza is a skinny, grey fish, Clownfish is a clownfish, and Aussie is a stripy fish.

Minor Characters

     Mayor Shellton Shellsby
The mayor, and a sea snail.

     Miss Finny
The kids' schoolteacher.

     Leopold
A lobster who is chief librarian.

     Professor Tortoisenapper Quince
A tortoise (or possibly turtle) who is an explorer and shows the audience around Silicon Deep.

     Senorita Maria Ortega
A fish who works at the advice kiosk.

     Tortoisenapper Quince's Mother
He gets a call from her during the tutorial.

     Antipodes
A band who Sprat likes.

  • List Song: Their song "Keep Yourself Switched On" lists a bunch of things that could go wrong with the Internet.

     Sprat's father
Sprat's father, who briefly appears in "Oops".

  • Unnamed Parent: He's just "Sprat's dad", "your dad" or "my dad" depending on who's talking.

     Ming's mother
Ming's mother, who cheers her up in "You're Not Alone".

     Aretha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/499340500_640.jpg
Ranjeet's other best friend, who works in the Tech Cave.

  • Vague Age: She and Ranjeet (a child) hang out together without anyone else, so she's possibly an older teen or an adult, but she could just be a Free Range Child.

     PC Jim
Constable Solosolave's friend, another seahorse cop who specializes in cybercrime.

     The Info Gang's family
During their conversation, the Info Gang mention Humphrey's grandmother, Wazza's great-grandmother, and Clownfish's uncle.

  • Con Man: Apparently, Clownfish's uncle sells imaginary computers.
  • Cool Old Lady: Zigzagged. Humphrey and Wazza say, "My grandmother can juggle better than you?" "Yeah, well my great-grandmother can balance better than you", but it's never revealed if these claims are true or not.
