The Dark Hand

An international crime syndicate that the Chan Clan have encountered on numerous occasions, unaware of its true scope and power.
  • Adaptational Badass: In canon, the organization was Valmont's private criminal empire and collapsed after his multiple defeats and eventual imprisonment. Here, Valmont’s group is revealed to have been just one facet of world-spanning organization that is secretly controlling Section 13 as part of a larger agenda.
  • Enemy Civil War: Their North American branch underwent this following Valmont’s downfall.
  • Evil Power Vacuum: Valmont's downfall caused all his underlings in the North American branch to fight each other for control. The chaos only ends when Chang comes over from Asia to start cleaning up the mess and appoint a new leader.
    • Section 13 has learned from this, and attempts to take advantage of it when they move in to deal with Chang. They flip Harold and set him up to be their Mole in Charge… except Harold’s actual been a Dark Hand leader all along, and was just playing Section 13.
  • Expy: Word of God is that their portrayal in this story is based on the Light from Young Justice.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Their true goal is to manipulate Earth's governments to start using magic, in order to protect the world from perceived extra-dimensional threats.

     Bartholomew Chang
The Asian branch leader of the Dark Hand, Chang comes to America to reorganize the local branch after former leader Valmont's imprisonment.

  • Arc Welding: In canon, his crime empire was by all accounts independent of the Dark Hand. Here, he's one of the group's leaders.
  • Artificial Limbs: His prosthetic hand, as per canon.
  • Cloning Gambit: He magically clones himself and lets said clone get arrested by Section 13 after Harold "changes sides", enabling him to keep running the Asian branch from the shadows while Harold takes over the American branch while pretending to be Section 13's mole.
  • Shock and Awe: Briefly during the subway fight, thanks to getting ahold of the Gauntlet of Indra.
  • Villainous Valor: He absolutely refuses to let the Guardians defeat him during the subway fight. It takes Nimue shattering the Gauntlet of Indra for him to finally cut his losses and run.

     Harold Hale
Cornelia's father, who is revealed to be a Middle-Management Mook serving under Chang. In actuality, he's one of the Dark Hand's leaders and the mythical King Arthur.

  • Adaptational Villainy: In both the comic and TV versions of W.I.T.C.H. canon, he's a completely decent person. Here, he's an affiliate of the Dark Hand, albeit in an I Did What I Had to Do sort of way. Then later it's revealed that he's actually one of their leaders.
  • Broken Pedestal: Becomes this to his daughter after she learns what his job really is.
  • Double Agent: He lets Section 13 think he's their mole, so he can fully take over the North American branch without arising their suspicions.
  • Exact Words: He manages to give his daughter advice based on his own past experiences, worded in such a way to avoid giving away that he's the immortal King Arthur.
  • Eye Scream: Ross stabs him in the eye with a pen, only for him to reveal that he has a Healing Factor, which quickly undoes the damage.
  • Good Parent: Whatever his flaws, he's still a doting parent, who at one point notably gives Cornelia good advice on how to reach Elyon after their falling out.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: How he justifies working for the Dark Hand — doing so keeps his family safe and secure.
  • Justified Criminal: He feels he's this, since he's doing it for his family.
  • Middle-Management Mook: He's above the grunts, but isn't part of the upper echelons. Or at least, that's what we're meant to believe.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Works a 9-to-5 office job just like many other husbands and fathers, except it's as part of a criminal empire. Partly averted later on, when it turns out he’s actually one of the Dark Hand's leaders, not just another minion.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives one to Jackie in Chapter 7, saying that Jackie is in no position to judge him for his work with the Dark Hand, when his own actions (removing Valmont and triggering an Enemy Civil War) have caused many innocent people to get caught in the crossfire and suffer.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He's an immortal King Arthur, so he's been around for centuries.
  • Secret-Keeper: Learns about the Guardians through the Dark Hand's resources.
  • Walking Spoiler: Due to his connection to the Dark Hand and his true identity.

     Hak Foo
A mercenary once employed by Valmont, during which he fought the Chans several times, now working under Chang.

  • And I Must Scream: Is left virtually catatonic by Ikki’s mask draining his chi.
  • Barehanded Blade Block: Does this with Caleb's sword during the subway fight, thanks to being empowered by his Oni mask.
  • Calling Your Attacks: As per canon. Tohru eventually points out that this just tells his opponents what he's planning.
  • Co-Dragons: Along with Crane, he serves as one of Chang's chief enforcers.
  • Demonic Possession: Ikki, the General of the Mantis Khan mask he's wearing, eventually possesses him during the subway fight.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: He cannot understand why Jackie remains so humble despite being possibly the greatest fighter alive, when he himself has worked so hard to earn that title and the recognition that comes with it. It's part of why he hates Jackie so much.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Is completely confident that he can use the Oni mask without consequences. But in the end, leaving it on for so long drains his chi and leaves him virtually catatonic when it's removed.
  • Motive Rant: He gives Jackie one during their duel in Chapter 17, explaining his reasons for working for the likes of Valmont and Chang as well as for hating Jackie.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: When Jackie tries to appeal to him to abandon his Oni mask by pointing out that relying on its power means that he technically isn't actually the strongest person around, Hak responds by saying that as long as he beats Jackie, he doesn't care.
  • Worthy Opponent: He reluctantly admits that he views Jackie as this, due to his respect for Jackie’s skill as a fighter.

     Phillip Crane
One of Chang’s lieutenants.

  • Affably Evil: Is a pretty amiable and nice guy when interacting with people on a non-fighting basis.
  • Cat Folk: Turns into one during the subway fight, thanks to the Cat of Khartoum.
  • Co-Dragons: Along with Hak Foo, he serves as one of Chang's chief enforcers.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Is a pretty normal guy when not on the job, to Jackie’s surprise.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: He abandons the subway fight after Caleb uses the Sword of Thanatos and enters Berserker Form.

     Vanessa Barone
The European branch leader of the Dark Hand.

  • Arc Welding: In canon, she was an independent villain, with no known connection to the Dark Hand. Here, she's one of the group's leaders.
  • Mythology Gag: One of her first lines to Jackie (about saying that she's been called a lot of things but never nice) is word-for-word from their first meeting in canon. And she has the Eye of Aurora, the artifact the two of them fought over in her canonical appearance.

     Bau Faurok
The African branch leader of the Dark Hand.

  • Child Soldier: He's implied to have been one in his youth.
  • Original Character
  • Scary Black Man: He's a lifelong trained killer who's now one of the five leaders of an international criminal empire. If that doesn't qualify as scary, nothing does.

     Theodore Riddle
One of the Dark Hand's leaders and, under an alias, Captain Black's direct superior.

  • Canon Welding: He's an enemy of the Guardians from the W.I.T.C.H. comic continuity, and here is also a leader of the Dark Hand, which is from JCA.
  • Evil Old Folks: Is the physically oldest of the branch leaders.
  • Running Both Sides: He’s a branch leader of the Dark Hand and under the alias of "Victor Folkner" is Captain Black's direct superior in the government.
  • Secret Identity: Uses the alias of "Victor Folkner" in order to interact with lawful society.

     Raphael Silla
Riddle's right hand agent.

  • Affably Evil: Is pretty friendly in his interactions with Jackie.
  • Cold Sniper: Apparently is quite proficient at sniping.
  • The Dragon: To Riddle.
  • Un-person: The Dark Hand erased all official record of him prior to joining them.
