Characters / Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Morzes Soiree

Go To

An independent team of explorers led by Madam Edel Morze. They scour Paladia in search of relics that will help Edel unlock the secrets contained within a certain set of ruins in Crystalis, over which she built her own mansion to ensure no one else would explore it.

In General:

  • Badass in a Nice Suit: All of them besides the Madam are dressed in suits and all of them were chosen to join her because they were either badass or interesting to her in some way.
  • Battle Butler: The members of Morze's Soiree all serve as Battle Butlers to Madam Edel.
  • The Missing Faction: So far, most of her servants have specialized in one particular element. However, servants specializing in light and dark have yet to appear, although Edel herself has Dark attacks to her name.
  • Multinational Team: Morze's Soiree's recruitment seems to come down to who is strong and/or piques Edel's interest in some way. Pretty much every nation and walk of life of Paladia is represented in it, including an elf, two beastkind, and an escaped living weapon.
  • Named Weapons: Nearly the entire Soiree has one, with Vesvia currently being the only exception:
    • Edel: Beloved Edel (her red flintlock rifle), Nightbringer Wolf's Gun (her Esper Unit's blue flintlock rifle, which she Dual Wields with Beloved Edel in her Brave Shift), and the Scarlet Glove (her Neo Vision unit's STMR, seen in use during her Brave Shift).
    • Amber has the Fatal Knuckles, her 4-star unit's TMR.
    • Lexa has the Gale Rod, an event equipment from Season 2, and an upgraded version of it as her 5-star unit's Tempest Rod STMR.
    • Erwin has the Hyomonto, an ice katana, as his TMR.
    • Elbis has the Agni, a huge sword that is his TMR, with an upgraded version of it as his 5-star unit's STMR.
    • Peciotta has the Whirlwind, his 4-star unit's TMR, and the Raspberyl, his 5-star free unit's STMR.
    • Shinju has the Pearl Whip, which was not named until a Season 3 event, where it is an event item.
    • Merald has the Keuranos, an axe that serves as her TMR.
  • Undying Loyalty: While the reasons for it are unknown outside of Amber (who raised Edel) and Lexa (whom Edel saved when Lexa was a child), the Soiree as a whole are unfailingly loyal to Edel and work diligently (if not always effectively) to assist her. Vesvia is the only exception, but her portion of the Madam's Manor sidequest in season 2 shows that even she is developing this by the end.

Madam Edel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/edel_53.jpg
The mysterious head of Madam's Manor. A long-lived half-elf that makes her life out of exploring old ruins. She seeks the treasure in the ruins beneath her mansion to liven up her life.
  • Adventurer Archaeologist: Edel's long-time favorite way to pass the time is to delve into ancient ruins and find out just what's in there. She focused more on the "adventure" part of the trope name, and she didn't really care at all about the other half until getting together with Almaz.
  • Battle Aura: Weaponized - her first learned ability as a vision is Menacing Aura, in which she just comes off as so badass that she literally causes a foe to freeze in fear (represented in-game as an 80% chance to inflict Stop).
  • BFG: While the gun she uses in her attack animation is not as ridiculous as Olive's Sparky, it's worth noting that it's apparently a pistol with a barrel roughly half to two-thirds her height, and she uses it one-handed, effectively. It looks similar to a sawed-off shotgun or a rifle, which she casually uses like a pistol.
  • Blow You Away: Untamed Wolf Edel has Wind as her main element instead of Earth, with her Brave Shift focusing on dealing Wind Summon Magic damage.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: She picks Lasswell up as a bodyguard not because she needs the protection — she's almost certainly one of the most powerful individuals in the story — but because the staff of her manor don't like her adventuring on her own and this way they won't give her as much grief about it.
  • Casting a Shadow: While not as effective as below, she also can do Dark-elemental damage and imbues upon herself.
  • The Coats Are Off: Her Neo Vision's base form is nearly identical to her original unit, merely in a different pose. When she activates Brave Shift, though, she dramatically flips her coat off to instantly change into her "Edel the Mole" outfit.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: In her moveset, she has several Earth-elemental moves, including the ability to imbue it on her attacks. Her strongest Imperil is also on that element.
  • Dual Wielding: She can do this natively, and as her attack animation suggests, her preferred style of combat is to shoot with one hand and pummel with the other, and she gets extra bonuses to attack (in addition to the standard effects of equipping two weapons) when she does so.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Edel one-shotting Bennu at the end of the first floor of the Ancient Ruins is so emblematic of her that it's her Vision Card.
  • Facial Markings: It's not entirely clear if it's a birthmark, evidence of her Half-Human Hybrid heritage, or just a tattoo, but Edel has what appears to be a large dark-skintone star on the left half of her face, with her hair covering where some of the points are. It certainly marks her as distinct among Paladians in general, and she has the power to back it up.
  • Fanservice Pack: Her Brave Shift of her Neo Vision unit is her old "Edel the Mole" outfit - complete with short shorts, a tied-off shirt working overtime as a bra (allowing for her chest to bounce and baring her navel), thigh high boots (combining with said shorts to make Zettai Ryouiki) and a shorter hairstyle to give her a more active look. Not that she was hard on the eyes in the first place, but her Brave Shift is certainly out to appeal to the fans.
  • Gathering Steam: How her original version works as a unit at 7 stars. She has four moves that unlock every third turn, and using them gives a 3 times multiplier to all of her at-will moves, and these four buffs stack. On top of that, her limit boost also grants a bonus that stacks onto the previous four. Finally, one of her moves, Heaven-Earth Assault, buffs itself if used again within two turns. She takes time (12 turns!) to get up to speed, but she has incredible damage potential once she does. Her esper unit and Neo Vision versions also have moves that power up other moves, but noticeably fewer, allowing them to get to full strength more quickly.
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: One of the few examples of "good smoking" in modern media not covered by Grandfather Clause, Edel has a long, thin pipe that she pulls out in victory animations (and said pipe is even a craftable accessory as of season 3's Morze's Soiree event). In her case, she combines the "wise older pipe smoker" type with the sexy type (although her most Fanservice-y depiction has her not holding the pipe) as well as the utter badass type.
  • Gun Fu: The turn-based RPG version of this is her specialty - the same passive, "Romantic Adventurer," gives her significant boosts to using both a Power Fist and a gun at the same time, her Trust Mastery Reward boosts attack when equipped with either (thus doubling effectiveness when both are equipped), her attack animation involves her blasting a foe with a long-barreled pistol followed by a flurry of punches and kicks, and her Limit Break is a flashier version of said attack animation.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: She off-handedly mentions that she's half-dark elf during Regina's flashback in the latter's Day in the Limelight, and she'll mention it in a similar fashion to Lasswell after the third level of her manor is cleared. This presumably explains her levels of sheer badassery; the only other dark elf shown is the one who's a member of the Eight Sages, who was powerful enough to give both the main party and Citra problems simultaneously in a weakened state.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Not only can Edel just outright ignore a killing blow twice if she's fully awakened and equipped with either her TMR or Super TMR and above 1% health, but she also has an ability to grant her Reraise if both of those are depleted. And if she does get killed and revived by the Reraise, the count on the above-listed ability is reset. Set up properly, and it's nigh-impossible to kill her. In addition, she has passives that increase both attack and defense at certain health plateaus - the closer she is to defeat, the stronger she comes back.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: Fortunately, you're merely expected to survive her AoE attack and that's all, not win, but she can and will wipe the floor with the party if they're not prepared. Using Libra on her will reveal that she has 100 million HP, well beyond what any of the superbosses so far have had. Also, after she ends the fight, she reveals that she went easy on you.
  • Lady Drunk: Downplayed - her unit description notes that she enjoys knocking back alcohol, and a few of her comments and those of her mansion's staff imply that she's regularly drinking between dives into the dungeon beneath her manor, but she apparently has a rather high tolerance, as she's never shown actually being drunk.
  • Last of His Kind: She seems to be the last remaining dark elf in the world. Understandably, since the continent the elves lived on was thrown into Lapis.
  • The Lost Lenore: Almaz, her one-time rival that she fell in love with, became hers. She fell into a depression for years after his death, learning that he hid one last grand treasure for her to find is what snapped her out of her funk, and she still semi-regularly reflects on him. She also doesn't even hint at thinking about romance with anyone else. She even names the Soiree to reflect the fact that, to her, life without Almaz is like the sun has gone out of her life - so she may as well do her best to enjoy a good party at night.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Her story event in part depicts many years ago, when she was a treasure hunter that went by the name Edel the Mole, and her romance with human researcher Almaz. Both knew that she would outlive him by centuries, but they loved each other too much to resist.
  • Multi-Melee Master: While a Power Fist and a gun are the weapons she favors, Edel can use nearly every weapon type in the game - the only exceptions are bows, staves, and rods.
  • Named Weapons: Her signature rifle, obtained from clearing every level of her manor and obtaining the jewels therein, is the Beloved Edel.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Grey-haired and evidently fairly old, but possesses staggering power. When you fight her, after a few turns she'll unleash an AoE physical that will wipe any unit not being covered by another. When you explore the first level of the ruins together, she'll beat the boss in one punch. Said boss is one of the fiercest fights in Season 2 when you go back to fight it yourself.
  • Older Than They Look: Is at least hundreds of years old but looks like a white haired thirty year old in official art.
  • Our Elves Are Different: Downplayed. While she is half-elven, and she's noted as one of the most powerful people in the world, she doesn't wave her ancestry in anyone's face, only bringing it up if she's specifically asked about her ears.
  • Prehensile Hair: Her normal attack in Untamed Wolf Edel's Brave Shift has her finishing that a whipping from her own hair, which can easily be mistaken for a tail.
  • Red Baron: "Edel the Mole". "Mole" according to Edel is a title given to Paladian adventurers that are known to spend more time inside ruins than among the civilization.
  • Silver Vixen: While Edel doesn't look old in the slightest, her white hair makes many players take her for a gorgeous "grandma". Helps that she has the age to back it.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Take a look at how Edel attacks her enemies with both normal attacks and her Limit Bursts, and you'll notice she isn't really technical on her fighting style, something noted by Cleome's Vision when King Mog summons Visions of everyone for a Tournament Arc, but she compensates for it with her immense strength doing all the work.
  • World's Strongest Woman: No one is sure if even Vlad could be stronger than her in Paladia.

Amber

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amber_1_4.png

An elf who accompanies the Madam wherever she goes as her self-appointed bodyguard, and the Soiree's second-in-command. Having been around with Edel for centuries, she's known to be far older than Edel herself and states she'll still outlast her naturally.

  • Badass Normal: Despite having no magical capabilities she's kept up with the Madam for a long time.
  • Big Damn Heroes: It's how she meets Vesvia when the latter is cornered by Aldoran soldiers. Amber swoops in and takes an entire platoon out in a matter of seconds.
Amber: Not doing too well there, are you? Maybe I should step in.
  • Brave Scot: Well, the fantasy setting thereof, but she's given a distinct Scottish accent in the English version (regularly dropping "laddie" and "bonnie"), and she's both one of the physically strongest members as well as the longest-serving member of the Soiree, having raised Edel and been the very first person to accompany her in her various dungeon delves, centuries before the Soiree was formed.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: She and Edel, obviously.
  • Intergenerational Friendship:
    • With Vesvia, definitely, as the girl imprinted on her after having been saved by her.
    • With Edel, believe it or not, as Amber at one point states having raised Edel by herself.
  • Ki Manipulation: A couple of her abilities are treated as magic even though they're types of punches.
  • Parental Substitute: She more or less raised Edel, and she's now repeating the process with Vesvia.
  • Power Fist: Her specialty are knuckle dusters, and a spiked pair, the Fatal Knuckles, are her trust master reward.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Let's put it like this: She was around when Vlad took over Paladia and she knows Edel since she was a child. It's stated that she'll be around long after Edel is gone due to being a pureblood elf. Which leads to...
    • Who Wants to Live Forever?: She notes the downside to an extended lifespan to Edel when the latter is mourning Almaz's death by illness — it can be very difficult to deal with the fact that people she cares about will die well before she will (and she even points out that, although it's going to take longer, Edel is still going to die well before her). However, she brings it up not to discourage interacting with shorter-lived beings, but to cherish each moment that one has with them.
  • Team Mom: She's the oldest member of the Soiree by an insane margin, and she makes sure to look after everyone in there, not just Vesvia or Edel.
  • What Does She See in Him?: She has a very close relationship with Edel, is very protective of her, and objects to her taking Almaz for a lover. When the two end up working together, she disappears for a long time and Edel comments she was upset that Edel was spending so much time with Almaz. She seems to only have returned to Edel once he died. While this could have romantic implications between the two, it's made explicit that Amber's relationship with Edel is closer to that of a mother, as she raised the half-Dark Elf.

Lexa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lexa.jpg

A fashion-foward mage who'd rather maintain her beauty than fight. She was a little nameless girl when Edel rescued her from a group of human traffickers. Lexa has complete devotion to Edel since then, seeing her as a mother; she also is the one responsible for the butler motif of the Soiree. Wields the power of wind.

  • Blow You Away: Her main elemental affinity is wind.
  • Girly Girl: Her main preoccupations are fashion and upkeeping her beauty.
  • I Owe You My Life: Her past is revealed in Edel's story event - she was a child sold into slavery without even a name, and the town she was in was attacked by brigands. Edel saved her, and in gratitude, the child started to follow Edel. Edel named her Lexa, and offered her a paid position on her retinue.
  • Lady of Black Magic: She's not quite as provocative as some other examples, but her main interests are centered around beauty and fashion, breaking out her spells only when needed by Madam.
  • Made a Slave: Lexa's parents sold her into slavery without even bothering to give her a name;
  • Undying Loyalty: While true of most of the Soiree, Lexa is one of the two members of Morze's Soiree most loyal to Madame Edel, due to the latter freeing her from slavery. It's telling that she's one of the two who sends Lasswell to find Edel when she goes missing near the end of the Madam's Manor chain of sidequests.

Erwin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/erwin_1.png

A human adviser to King Yashka. In reality, he is a part of Morze's Soiree and loyal to the Madam. He was the second to be recruited by Edel, with only Lexa before him. Wields a Katana with ice-elemental properties.

  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Erwin was added to the game well before Edel or the rest of Morze's Soiree were, so his description in the unit page discusses him serving in an unnamed group for a king, as opposed to a very rich woman without noble title.
  • An Ice Person: He wields an icy katana.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: His weapon of choice, Hyomoto, is an ice katana.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Inverted - he's actually one of the weakest members of Morze's Soiree, one of two only capable of reaching five stars at max awakening, but he's Madam's third-in-command (only Amber and Edel herself are in positions superior to him) and majordomo. However, most of his authority comes from a) knowing how to treat people, and b) being apparently the only member of Madam Edel's group of butlers who actually knows how to be a butler (the others more or less acting like a commando squad in butler outfits).
  • The Rival: It's suggested in Edel's story event that he, as the third member of the Soiree, initially had a rivalry with Lexa, the second, as the two spend a little time sniping with each other when Erwin first arrived at her manor.
  • Sneeze Cut: The event with Morze's Soiree in Season 3, involve Edel, Lexa, and Elbis exploring a cavern that Shinju and Pecciotta had previously explored with Lasswell and Akstar, finding a spring that Edel feels is perfect for training the entire Soiree to become stronger. The scene immediately cuts to Erwin and Merald back at Madam's Manor, with Erwin sneezing and explaining to Merald that the last time he randomly sneezed, Edel dragged him on a brutal training expedition. He and Merald realize quickly that this isn't a coincidence.

Elbis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elbis.jpg

An older, scarred man with a knack for getting into uncomfortable situations. Wields the power of fire.

  • Accidental Pervert: He pops up out of a lake shirtless in front of Charie, who is frightened and thinks he's trying to seduce her.
  • BFS: His weapon of choice is a fire-element zweihander called Flaming Blade Agni.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: The friendliest, as well as the largest and most imposing, of the Soiree.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He keeps a trap door open with all his strength to allow his companions to pass through, knowing it will crush him to death once he tires. However, he's saved by Nichol coming up with a plan to get him out of his predicament.
  • Playing with Fire: Downplayed compared to the elemental affinities of his allies, but this is his specialty - his Limit Break does fire damage, he can imperil foes to fire, and with awakening he can imbue his strikes with fire.
  • Not What It Looks Like: His first appearance involves popping out of a lake half naked, much to the terror of Charie, who was happening to pass by. When we see how he got there, he was not being a pervert — He'd been forced to strip and jump into the lake due to being chased by Aldoran soldiers.

Merald

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/merald_1.png

A highly energetic Shibryan woman. Wields the power of lightning.

  • Cat Girl: A Shybiran jaguar-girl.
  • Mysterious Past: Very little is known about Merald and flavor text on her unit says no one but her knows much about her in general.
  • Shock and Awe: Her axe has the innate lightning element.
  • Stock Animal Diet: One of the few things known about her is her fondness for both catching and eating fish, unsurprising for someone who looks like an anthropomorphic jaguar. When she finally returns to the Manor, her room is full of fishing gear.

Shinju

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shinju_4.png

A whip-wielding firecracker of a girl who wants to take over the Soiree one day. Has a childish attitude and is seen constantly walking around with Pecciotta in tow. Wields the power of earth.

  • Brilliant, but Lazy: While she's tough, she doesn't much like going on missions for the Madam.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Her 7* unit's victory pose has her hugging Pecciotta, who doesn't seem to be happy.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Represents the earth element.
  • The Ditz: She does not have the best focus, and she's the most prone of the entire Soiree to make foolish and boneheaded moves, plus she has a habit of forgetting important details to report back to Edel. It frequently falls on Pecciotta to keep her on track.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Has pigtailed pink hair.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red oni to Pecciotta's blue.
  • The Starscream: She makes no secret of wanting to beat Madam Edel and take over the Soiree herself. The Madam is mostly amused by this.
  • Weapon Specialization: Her weapon of choice is a whip and her trust mastery grants anyone additional attack when wielding one.

Pecciotta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pecciotta.jpg

A Shybiran dog who was an assassin before joining Morze's Soiree. A former assassin who joined Edel's team for no particular reason. He's frequently tasked with keeping an eye on the hyperactive Shinju.

  • Agent Peacock: He's rather meticulous in his grooming - he apparently spends at least 3 hours a day doing so, and the note about him always smelling of roses suggests that he takes time to apply perfume. That said, he's possibly the most willing to kill in Soiree, and his temper is still noted to be short.
  • Battle Boomerang: His specialty are chakrams that return after he throws, and his trust master reward is a wind-element boomerang called Whirlwind.
  • Berserk Button: Being called cute and being petted are his ultimate triggers. Shinju constantly presses both on a regular basis.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Well, she's more of The Ditz than a space-case, but Shinju has real focus issues, and it's frequently up to Pecciotta to keep her on track. It's suggested that he's mellower than he used to be because of being required to do this (and that Edel may have deliberately made him this to mellow him out).
  • Mysterious Past: It's hinted both in story and in his unit description that Pecciotta used to be a professional assassin who left the life after encountering Madam. He sometimes hints that he's not very far removed, either - when Vesvia first was inducted into Soiree, he was ready to kill her for backtalking to Edel.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue oni to Shinju's red.

Vesvia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vesvia.jpg

The youngest and newest member of the Soiree. An Artificial Human created by Aldoran scientists trying to recreate Dark Fina. While she is a powerful spellcaster, she has little motivation to do anything but sleep and was forced into the Soiree by Amber, whom she imprinted on. Wields the power of water.

  • Aborted Arc: Vesvia was made as an attempt to reproduce Fina's powers. Even with Season 3's reveals about the real reason Aldore was so interested on Fina, nothing is made of Vesvia's case, and Vesvia herself never manifested anything close to what Fina is truly capable of.
  • Adventure Archaeologist: While the Soiree in general tend to get roped into Edel's treasure hunting to help her out, after clearing the fourth level of the catacombs under Madam's Manor, Vesvia seems to have enjoyed herself and seems interested in doing so for her own enjoyment and not just under orders.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Amber likes to call her "Ves".
  • Artificial Human: It's not known if she's a clone or if she was genetically modified, but it's stated by Krowa that the experiment done on her had the purpose of recreating Fina's powers.
  • Black Magician Girl: Spunky, defiant, and more than capable of eliminating entire squads of troops with her water magic.
  • Boyish Short Hair: To combo with it, Vesvia also shows some Tomboy traits.
  • Broken Bird: She's heavily implied to be depressed in her quest on the Glistening Ice Caves.
  • Child Soldier: Despite her youth she was often sent out with Aldoran troops.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Part of her Hidden Depths. Vesvia is seen caring for an Ochu that Edel was just about to beat, for example, and her main art has her surrounded by little animals.
  • From Bad to Worse: In her eyes, going from being an experiment of Aldore to a member of Morze's Soiree was initially this.
  • Making a Splash: She's an incredibly capable aquamancer.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Implied when you consider she was created with Dark Fina's genetic material. The fact that Fina is a Dimensional Traveler by nature explains why Aldore was so interested in her abilities to the point of making Vesvia in an attempt to reproduce such being.
  • Raised by Wolves: Played for Drama. Growing up as an Artificial Human in a weapons lab founded by an Omnicidal Maniac was not conducive to a healthy childhood, and it's not hard to infer that pretty much all of her issues stem from the fact that, by the time Lasswell meets her in Rubiena, she's only had months of anything remotely resembling normal upbringing... and even that needs to be asterisked with "as normal as a team of butler-themed Adventure Archaeologists can provide".
  • The Resenter: Unlike the other members of the Soiree, she is not serving Edel willingly. She's more attached to Amber, and the primary reason she stays in the Soiree is to be near her.
  • Sleepyhead: She'd like nothing better than to sleep forever.
  • Tsundere: Completing her sector mission shows that, deep down, she does appreciate and is thankful for being taken in by Edel, and she just has a hard time handling this because she was a Tyke-Bomb that is only now free from that previous life, and thus has a poor handle on her emotions.
  • Tyke-Bomb: She was raised to be a Super-Soldier by Aldore.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Meeting Regina causes Vesvia to think she's a robot like her as she questions her own existence.
  • You Are Number 6: She was only referred to by a serial number (Mage D-001) before being named by Amber.
