These are the members of Kallen's former guild, Kraken's Eye. The guild seems to have a gloomy nature about it being full of mages with a water or darkness motif. Most of them, anyway. The guild exists on muddy terrain surrounded by birch trees at the south edge of a river. Two of its members are even part demon.
- Combat Pragmatist: Leana has something akin to Mind Rape powers and Kalina was willing to use her allies as decoys to seal a victory. Probably a safe bet that the others would do the same.
- Darker and Edgier: The whole guild seems to serve as this to Fairy Tail and Knightmare Frame given the actions and skills of each showcased member. At least in Knightmare Frame you have people like Suzaku in addition to Lelouch
- Pragmatic Hero: Between a conversation with Leana and Erza and Kalina's actions during the Oracion Seis arc, probably a safe bet that this is a state of mind shared by most of the guild.
- The Ace: Both of the Eleven Master Generals in the Sylvas Island arc and now of Kraken's Eye. He is also considered by Sorcerer Weekly to be considered the strongest sword mage in Fiore, where Kagura is only number 3 in X788. They fight each other during the X788 Grand Magic Games where he proves why he deserves that title.
- Always Someone Better: He is this to, in an eye opening twist, Kagura Mikazuchi. However, this is three years before Fairy Tail's return in X791, so it's difficult to say if it will stick. It doesn't.
- Battle Couple: He and Rena are intimately involved, though they aren't married yet.
- Cool Sword: The legendary Claymore of Time, which allows the user to freely time travel, but creates a separate timeline regardless of the direction traveled.
- Fish out of Temporal Water: As a result of being trapped in the hourglass sword for seven years.
- Holy Hand Grenade: He wields several high powered light based spells.
- Let's Get Dangerous!: He can unleash several powerful spells in rapid succession including the legendary Urano Metria and not seem tired.
- Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Though it needn't not as he is fully capable of fighting without it.
- One-Handed Zweihänder: The Claymore of Time true to its name is not meant to be wielded one handed, but Asura has the strength to do so.
- Playing with Fire: His original sword until he uses the Claymore of Time was the shape of a firebolt and dealt fire damage. Notably he can also use a basic fireball spell.
- The Stoic
- Worthy Opponent: He considers Kagura to be this.
- Amazon Chaser: Possibly. All of the women he seems to hit on are not only beautiful, but are bonafide badasses
- Butt-Monkey: Jace is never really given any semblance of credibility or threat in the times he's appeared. He would borderline Joke Character if he wasn't actually powerful.
- Heroic BSoD: Played for Laughs. He goes into Troubled Fetal Position when he realizes Chandra has hooked up with Isamu, his old school buddy.
- Love at First Sight: He fell in love with Chandra this way, and also falls this way for Leaf.
- Making a Splash: He uses high pressure water magic.
- Oblivious to Love: Leana laments he's oblivious to her affection.
- Broke Your Arm Punching Out Cthulhu: Goes both ways when she squares off against Jura. Kalina completely taxes herself trying to take him out and Jura topples over shortly after beating Kalina who was using her demon form at the time.
- Defiant to the End: When Ushiora tries to kill her, Kalina keeps up her smart mouth and spits in Ushiora's face rather than call out to her mother because she would rather die defiantly than give Kasumi more reason to be a smother. However, after Kasumi shows up and rescues her, Kalina reveals that she still does love her mom and is thankful that Kasumi came to her rescue.
- Disappeared Dad: Her initial introduction in her two-chapter story arc involves searching for him. She finds him, but not in the way she thought.
- Fake Defector: In order to help spring free Hisui E. Fiore from Tartaros' clutches, Kalina decides to feign betrayal in order to gain Tartaros' favor. Being 3/4 demon with a long history of parental resentment, this isn't difficult for her to do.
- Foil: To, strangely, Lucy Heartfilia. Kalina is brunette, stoic and subdued, lives in a swamp, she rarely gets to see her father, she draws her power from a rather nightmarish place, she's a high-tier fighter in a much lesser known guild, and she has mommy issues. Lucy, by comparison is blonde, upbeat and cheerful, comes from a rich family, her mother is no more, draws her power from a celestial realm, is a medium-tier fighter in a top-tier guild, and she has daddy issues.
- Generation Xerox: Kasumi and her daughter are more alike than they think. Both of them journeyed to uncover secrets that were kept from them. Kasumi looked for her Missing Mom and Kalina looked for her Disappeared Dad. Both parents turned out to be demons.
- Half-Human Hybrid: Being Kasumi's daughter naturally means she's this, but she's even less human than her mother given her father is full demon and Kasumi is half demon.
- Let's Get Dangerous!: Brings out her demon form, Retsu, during the final day of the X788 Grand Magic Games.
- My Beloved Smother: How she reacts to Kasumi's helicopter parenting.
- Mythology Gag: The name Retsu for Kalina's demon form might just seem like a Meaningful Name that means violence, but if you're a Soul Chess veteran you will recall that Retsu Unohana is Kasumi's daughter in that story.
- Nightmare Fetishist: Finds the demonic realm rather hospitable and thinks her nightmare summons are about the cutest thing ever.
- Running Gag: Any attempts to summon her biggest fish, Hypnox, or any discussion about it is almost immediately cut off.
- Hypnox is actually destroyed during her battle with Lamia Scale during the X788 Grand Magic Games, though Kalina talks about replacing it.
- Summon Magic: Of the Summon Bigger Fish variety. She makes contracts with creatures from the Nightmare Realm
- Strength Equals Worthiness: How she convinces any nightmare she summons to work for her.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Gets called out by Gray and Eve for using them as decoys while she concocted a plan to beat Racer.
Kasumi’s story with conceiving Kalina is that Kasumi went into the demonic realm on her own to meet her mother, a succubus named Mia. Kasumi, young and arrogant at the time, challenged the king of demons to a fight in order to permit that Mia be allowed to return to the human world because her summoning signature was being blocked by the king himself so that Kasumi could have her mother. How that turned out should be obvious. The King of Demons, as per his victory, decided that Kasumi would essentially be his slave until such a time that he wished to let her go. Kasumi developed Stockholm Syndrome and fell in love with her master and Kalina was conceived. Kasumi wanted to raise Kalina in the human world rather than the demon world and return to the family she had been apart from for nine years. The rest, as they say, is history.
- Anti-Magic: An interesting case with Kasumi's curse, Blackout. While it doesn't stop magic items from functioning, mages and the like can't cast spells and curses in Kasumi's presence. It's a cruel curse whose purpose is to allow her foe to have a Hope Spot that they can still fight back, while she tears straight through you.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Her versus Racer. He never had a chance.
- She gives another one to Ushiora for the same reasons. Lesson learned, kids: Don't hurt Kalina. Simple as that.
- Doting Parent <—> My Beloved Smother: Kasumi walks a fine line on this one. On the one hand you can tell she means well regarding her daughter’s safety and is more than ready to back Kalina on any decisions she makes. On the other hand her Mama Bear instincts are off the freaking charts.
- Generation Xerox: Both Kasumi and her father fell in love with a demon and conceived a child with one. Both also tried to hide this from their offspring.
- Half-Human Hybrid: Kasumi is the offspring of a powerful magus and a succubus.
- Knight Templar Parent: See Mama Bear below. Kasumi is very protective of her daughter. Whether or not Kalina appreciates this is up in the air.
- Late-Arrival Spoiler: Have you read Soul Chess? No? Are you planning to? Yes? Well guess what, just knowing Kasumi's last name and parenthood has spoiled one of the BIGGEST plot twists in the series.
- Let's Get Dangerous!: Her guild's signature magic, the Kraken System, enhances Kasumi's abilities considerably as shown in her fight with Natsu and Kallen.
- She also apparently reserves her demon form, Lualdi, for special occasions, like for would-be demon bitches that think they can kill her daughter and get away with it.
- Made a Slave: By the King of demons no less and it unfortunately would not be the first time. Thankfully this one isn't nearly as bad.
- Mama Bear: To the point that Marianne and Makarov are telling her to calm down regarding wanting to protect Kalina from Oracion Seis. And whoo boy did she lay a smackdown on Racer when he injured her baby girl.
- She did not take kindly]] to Ushiora's No-Holds-Barred Beatdown of Kalina during the Grand Magic Games. You do not fuck with this woman's kid.
- This comes to a head in chapter 254. After Ushiora tries to kill Kalina, Kasumi arrives. Ushiora gets massively wrecked by Kasumi who leaves nothing behind.
- Marshmallow Hell: Gives this to Tianzi who she describes as absolutely adorable.
- No-Sell: Having grown up in the demon realm as a babe, Kasumi is immune to the harmful effects of miasma.
- Stockholm Syndrome: She began to enjoy being the servant to the king of demons and eventually bore his child.
- When All You Have Is a Hammer…: Her curse enforces this trope on her opponent, robbing them of special powers and requiring that they have to brute force their way through her arsenal and her own physical strength to defeat her. And considering Kasumi is a top-tier threat compared to the mooks and red shirts around her, chances of that happening are slim.
- Animal Motifs: The kraken, since many of her techniques involve the creature, including Combat Tentacles.
- I Did What I Had to Do: Her excuse as to why she needs to use her primary magic on missions.
- Lady of Black Magic: Her mind powers aren't her only weapon, her magic output is so great she can use the Kraken System, her guild's signature magic, with little effort. She uses it to completely obliterate Blue Pegasus' Team. That doesn't means she's a static fighter either, as her fight with Sorano proves.
- Letting Her Hair Down: When she's about to unleash a very powerful spell, her hair cascades dramatically.
- Mind Rape: Her magic has her doing this to people, often to extract information.
- Spanner in the Works: Morrigan sees her as one after she unlocks Ushiora's memories, but instead of killing her, Morrigan simply uses her Geass to prevent her from rereading those memories.
- Battle Couple: With Asura and she will blush like a little schoolgirl if someone hammers the point home about it.
- By the Power of Grayskull!: She precedes going Dragon Force with the line Kiss your butt goodbye!
- Fiery Redhead: Quite literally considering her magic.
- Fish out of Temporal Water: As a result of being trapped in the Hourglass Sword for seven years
- Flight: With Hellfire Dragon's Wings
- Hellfire: Her element as a dragon slayer.
- Hidden Depths: She's actually aware her powers and personality are very different from the theme of the rest of her guild, but doesn't let it get to her.
- Power Dyes Your Hair: She used to have blonde hair before the lachryma was implanted in her body.
- Wreathed in Flames: Several attacks encase her whole body in her element.
- Cool Old Guy: The dude was a wizard saint during the time that he was alive while Kalina was alive. Sadly, that ended five years ago.
- Late-Arrival Spoiler: If you ever plan on reading Soul Chess, but have not yet done so then knowing that he is Kasumi’s father is a major plot twist in that series you have been spoiled for.
- Posthumous Character
