Main characters

    Shu Ogata
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shu_ogata_29.jpg
Voiced by: Soma Saito (Japanese), Howard Wang (English)

A young man running a small PMC in Bayron City.

  • All for Nothing: Discussed, with his contract with Kisara. He made the contract with Kisara to find out the truth of what happened to his family, but as the cost for her powers requires him to give up his memories, chances would have been high he'd have forgotten all about them and his motives if he kept using her powers. And then he finds out Kisara wasn't even using his memories anyway, but was consuming her own memories for that purpose all along, making the whole contract completely pointless.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Downplayed; he still remembers his life and previous relationships, but is willing to sacrifice his memories, including those of his past romance with Ayano, to power up Kisara.
  • The Casanova: Shu has one hell of a dating history, getting hitched with Ayano and Sharon, and having a romantic interest with 2 Kisara(s).
  • Childhood Friend Romance: He had a romance with Ayano, whom he's been close to since they were toddlers.
  • Deal with the Devil: Shu wanted Kisara's immense power to take on the D-hazards and find out what happened to his family, making a deal with her with several hidden clauses that allow him to duck out if things got out of hand. Unfortunately for him, Kisara was able to bend the deal and rope him into becoming her lover.
  • Death of Personality: Heavily hinted to occur if he were to keep losing memories to Kisara, which prompts her to sever the contract with him.
  • The Ditherer: When it comes to his love life, the guy can't commit to save his life, which has led to him stringing along an increasingly long line of women. Even when violence between his various love interests erupts over him, he can't seem to bring himself to outright say who he wants to be with.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Briefly wielded Kisara's BFS against Kanna in the final battle.
  • Likes Older Women: Deceptively younger appearances aside, both of Shu's primary love interests are older than him.
  • Martyr Without a Cause: As pointed out by several characters, Shu is dedicated to hunting demons to a self-destructive degree, seeing nothing wrong with sacrificing his memories to Kisara to power her up. Even Kisara eventually starts to have a problem with it, which leads her to annul their contract without his consent.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He is a well-toned young man who has several shirtless scenes.
  • Noodle Incident: Shu named Kisara after the girl he shared his first kiss with. What exactly happened to her?
  • Old Flame: It's clear he still loves Ayano, even if he's willing to sacrifice his memories of her.
  • Perpetual Poverty: His very first scene shows that he's unable to pay his regular anemities and living off beansprouts.
  • Working with the Ex: Was previously in a relationship with Ayano, which makes things awkward due to the circumstances of their breakup and his relationship with Kisara.
  • Vague Age: His specific age isn't given, only that he's "over 20."

    Kisara

Kisara in her demon outfit
Voiced by: Saya Aizawa (Japanese), Kayli Mills (English)

A demon posing as a high school girl, she formed a contract with Shu and supports him both on-and-off the clock.

  • BFS: Kisara's demon-slaying saber is bigger than her.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Siphoning the memories of the person you love for greater power would be considered quite a villainous action, but she seems to view the transaction as an act of genuine intimacy, as she's not actually consuming them, but rather preserving his memories within herself. Subverted later on as she starts regretting it, and even nullifies their contract against Shu’s consent, returning all of his lost memories along with giving all of hers in the process.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She's in love with Shu, and as such, doesn't take kindly to other women who might hold similar feelings.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: After coming to realize that by her taking Shu's memories, he would be left an empty husk. Later, Kisara cancels the contract out of love and loses all her memories to Shu. Shu breaks down upon realizing that she has never really burned up HIS memories all this time, she merely takes and preserves them within herself and burns up HER own memories before meeting him to empower herself up.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: Helps Shu fight and kill other demons as part of their contract.
  • Power at a Price: Kisara powers up by siphoning Shu's memories via their intimate kissing. The stronger the memory, the more power she gets. Though as it turns out, she is in reality using up her own memories to empower herself.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Despite looking high school-aged, she's been around for hundreds of years.
  • Intangibility: One of Kisara's demon powers allows her to phase through solid matter.
  • Yandere: Played for Laughs or not, she still tried to kill her beloved's ex-girlfriend out of sheer possessiveness.

    Ayano Yugiri
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ayano_yuugiri_29.jpg
Voiced by: Lynn (Japanese), Suzie Yeung (English)

An elite agent of the PMC "AAA Defender Co" and its president's daughter.

  • Badass in a Nice Suit: There have been times where she ended up fighting while still in her usual business suit.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: As confirmed in Episode 9, Ayano and Shu have known each other since they were little.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She did not like seeing that post of Kisara snuggling up to a sleeping Shu.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Her hair and eyes are both blue.
  • Mrs. Robinson: Her best friend Linka teases her about preferring younger guys, and claims that Ayano broke up with Shu "once he became an adult." Ayano vehemently denies this.
  • Ms. Fanservice: In episode 2, her large chest is prominently featured bouncing around while she is on an exercise bike. She also wears a skin-tight suit as her combat attire which shows off her legs.
  • Old Flame: She's Shu's ex-girlfriend, and she still holds feelings for him even after their breakup.
  • Sensual Spandex: Her combat attire is a skin-tight suit.
  • Sex with the Ex: It's heavily implied that she did this with Shu.
  • True Blue Femininity: Her eyes, hair and a good chunk of her wardrobe are all blue.
  • Vague Age: All that's given about her age is that she's "older than Shu," though she claims that the gap between them isn't that big. Judging from the flashback from when they were younger, Ayano is probably two or three years older than Shu.

    Sharon Holygrail
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sharon_holygrail_29.jpg
Voiced by: Rumi Ōkubo (Japanese), Anairis Quiñones (English)

A sister of the Seiten Church, she's secretly an agent for the world's top exorcist group. She possesses a history with Shu and Kisara.

  • Armed Legs: The tips of her boots are shown to have retractable blades during her fight against Kisara.
  • Blood Knight: Sharon is completely dedicated to her cause of eradicating demons and effortlessly works her way through several opponents in her debut episode.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Her kicks are shown to be strong enough to leave huge holes in concrete and is agile enough to outrun cars via Roofhopping
  • Clothing Damage: She survives her battle against Kisara with her Powered Armor destroyed, and since she had been wearing nothing underneath it, it left a few investigators who found her body flustered.
  • Fantastic Racism: Greatly dislikes demons and seeks their utter destruction. This extends to Kisara herself despite the fact that she was the key to keeping the equilibrium in Bayron City.
  • Kick Chick: Sharon specializes in crushing her opposition with her powerful legs, taking on some of Bayron City’s best fighters in rapid succession and dominating in her debut episode.
  • Meaningful Name: A Church Militant named Holy Grail.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's a beautiful and promiscuous nun with a large chest and a short outfit that shows off her legs. She also has to strip to put on her Powered Armor.
  • Naughty Nuns: Not only does her outfit leave little to the imagination, but Episode 7 shows her having sex with Shu. Upon being given her freedom, Sharon is seen lazily sprawled on the couch uncaring of the stares.
  • Nun Too Holy: She is far from the initial representation of a nun. For starters:
    • She's not a virgin, having had sex with Shuu years ago.
    • She indulges herself in drinking several cans of beer and wine.
    • The outfit she's normal seen in is quite revealing.
  • One-Man Army: Her debut has her fight her way through several groups of soldiers and thugs without breaking a sweat. One man even admits bringing every police officer and PMC in the city against her would do no good.
  • Phenotype Stereotype: One of the few European characters and has blonde hair and green eyes.
  • Powered Armor: Uses one during her second fight with Kisara armed with wrist mounted Gatling guns and Combat Tentacles.
  • Reporting Name: She is known "Sharon the Chaste," a title that is pointed out as being very unfitting for someone like her.
  • Vague Age: She's officially "the same age as Shu," meaning that specifics are just as unknown for her as they are for him.
  • Tranquil Fury: Despite the emotionless look she sports as she punches at Shu's face, it's clear that she's not happy about him forgetting about her.
  • Wild Card: Due to her ties with the Celestial Abbey, Sharon often comes into conflict with Shuu and the other demon-exterminating groups. In the tenth episode, Sharon temporarily teams up with Kisara to find Kanna but once they do, she tries to kill her to prevent Asmodeus from using Kanna as a gate to allow more of demonkind to enter the Earthly plane.
  • Woman Scorned: She's implied to be another one of Shu's ex-girlfriends, and she's clearly bothered by Kisara's accusation of her "losing control because a guy from the past forgot about (her)."

D Hazards

     Asmodeus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/asmodeus_engagekiss.JPG
Voiced by: Rei Sakai (Japanese), Amanda Lee (English)

Asmodeus is the main antagonist of the series. A mysterious, ancient demon that was responsible for the spike of D Hazards.

  • Big Bad: Is the one who directly and indirectly causes the D hazard attacks and whose apocalyptic plan sets the main conflict of the series.
  • Deal with the Devil: Asmodeus has made thousands in return for its grand goal of creating a gate to bring demonic forces to the human realm. One instance is when Miles Morgan meets with Asmodeus in private becoming a Demonically Possessed in return for Asmodeus curing his daughter.
  • I Have Many Names: Asmodeus has worn dozens of faces throughout its eternal life.
  • Kill and Replace: Did this to Shu's mother Sayuri 16 years ago.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Its stated goal is to have humans and demons coexist in harmony. However, given that several of the demons featured are violent and Always Chaotic Evil, this is far from the utopia it claims.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Asmodeus has been around for hundreds of years as documented by the Celestial Abbey.
  • Sinister Nudity: Takes on the form of Shu's mother with no inch of clothing and is out to bring forth the apocalypse.

     Kanna Ogata (Spoiler Warning
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/engage_kanna_ogata.jpg
Voiced by: Akari Kitou (Japanese), Lisa Reimold (English)

Shuu's younger sister.

  • Actor Allusion: Akari Kitou voicing a demonic younger sister who only speaks in grunts at first? Gee, where did that come from?
  • The Berserker: When the Bayron City security forces aim at Kanna, she trounces them like it's nothing. But when she sees Ayano, she flips hard and destroys it like it was nothing. Being filled with jealousy, imprisoned for a long while, and manipulated by Asmodeus didn't help.
  • Big Eater: When she sees Shu and Kisara almost having sex in their appartment, she immediately eats her own cooked food like she hasn't eaten for days after being detained in the confinement most likely because she is sick of the same food the guards gave to her and being jealous towards Kisara.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: When being calmed down, she professes her love towards her brother Shu, which doesn't sit well with Kisara. Being a much better cook than her didn't help.
  • Cardboard Prison: After being defeated and detained, Kanna is sealed in the highly secure depths of Bayron City which if Kisara's comments are of any indication, Kanna leaves on a regular basis to find her big brother.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: During her imprisonment, she had grown to resent Ayano, Kisara, and Sharon for getting close to her brother. Even after her Heel–Face Turn, the clinginess remains though she limits her destructiveness to Shu's own department instead.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: She is the last major opponent Shu and others must face after Asmodeus, or rather her clone, was easily destroyed by Kisara, who recently remembers Shu.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: When she manages to calm down, she turned out to be a much better cook than Kisara who only knew how to cook bean sprouts.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: She turns out to be a half-human and half-demon much like Kisara.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After being saved by Shu, she manages to escape captivity from her confinement to settle on Shu's apartment, which infuriated both Kisara and Ayano.
  • Incest-ant Admirer: Downplayed in that they have the same father but not the same mother, but she is nonetheless very attracted to her brother. Shu finds this incredibly awkward.
  • Not Blood Siblings: Downplayed since they share the same father, but Kanna's real mother is Asmodeus who killed and replaced Shu's mother Sayuri in order to give birth to her.
  • Palette Swap: Her half-demon form is a blue-tinted version of Kisara's, though it replaces cleavage and long pink hair with Underboobs, shows more of her curves, and having short brown hair.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Towards her brother Shu, much to his, Kisara, and Ayano's dismay.
  • Smug Super: When she finally calmed down, she taunts about Kisara being a terrible cook and an outsider in Shu's apartment by throwing a bag of bean sprouts at her after turning Bayron City into a warzone and being a diffcult opponent towards Kisara, Shu, Ayano and other PM Cs a few weeks ago.
  • Suddenly Voiced: After spending the rest of the series speaking in grunts, much like the previous role her Japanese VA did, she finally speaks in the last few minutes of the final episode.
  • Walking Spoiler: Not only is she revealed to not be dead, but she is also a half-human, half-demon hybrid that Asmodeus created to act as a gate.
  • Yandere: As soon as she is freed, Kanna is out for Kisara, Ayano and Sharon's blood for seducing her beloved brother and turning him into a freeloader, wrecking havoc all over Bayron City in her search for them.

Voiced by: Ken'ichirou Matsuda (Japanese), Bill Butts (English)

A policeman in Bayron City, he took Shuu in after the death of his parents.

  • Freudian Excuse: He only made a deal with Asmodeus in order to save his ailing daughter. Unfortunately, as a Demonically Possessed himself, Miles was forever indebted to Asmodeus.
  • Pet the Dog: He takes Shuu in and raises him as his own. Even when he reveals his true colors, he still has a flair of caring for him, his final words to Kisara being to tell Shuu he was sorry.
  • Tragic Monster: Became a Demonically Possessed out of desperation to cure his daughter.

  • Attention Whore: He likes to brag his attention to everyone, which made Shu irritated.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He may be incredibly flamboyant, but he's the actual head of Bayron City administration.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: Mikhail has eyes and cameras all over Bayron City, allowing him to witness all sorts of bad deeds behind the shadows and mobilize his resources to look into it.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Mikhail is romantically interested in the Shu-sexual Kisara, who gently turns down his over the top advances every time.
  • Large Ham: He is as subtle as a jackhammer to the face when he introduces himself to Shu and Ayano.
  • Mysterious Backer: He is the one who is providing Shu with information and clues about D-Hazards and threats well before any investigation force hear of it, allowing Shu to act preemptively to stop them.
