Main Characters

    Leyla
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leyla_tran_ren_2.png
Voiced by: Brennley Brown
  • Beautiful Singing Voice: Leyla is a great singer, which is mentioned by her brother, and is heard through two songs she sang in the Secrets of the Songwing special. In that special, Leyla's singing is what breaks the spell that Melodia put on dragons and people, as her singing is better than Melodia's singing.
  • Dragon Rider
  • Happily Adopted:
    • She and her brother were rescued and adopted by Winger's mother.
    • Chief Duggard adopts Leyla and Dak in the season 2 finale.
  • Missing Mom: Both her birth mother and her dragon mother are talked about in the past sense, the Dragon Diary having belonged to her human mother.
  • Performance Anxiety: Leyla for a long time is too scared to sing in front of people or dragons, but ends up getting over that fear in Secrets of the Songwing and uses her Beautiful Singing Voice to break the spell that Melodia, with her hypnotic singing voice, put on dragons and people.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead
  • Team Mom
  • Women Are Wiser: Compared to her Hot-Blooded brother and she's levelheaded all around.

    Dak
Voiced by: Nicolas Cantu
  • Fiery Redhead
  • Happily Adopted:
    • He and his sister were rescued and adopted by Winger's mother.
    • Chief Duggard adopts Leyla and Dak in the season 2 finale.
  • Leeroy Jenkins
  • Missing Mom: Like with his sister, both his human birth mother (lost in a ship wreck) and his adoptive dragon mother are no longer in the picture.
  • Team Dad
  • Thrill Seeker: Loves trying out crazy maneuvers while riding Winger and enjoys danger in general. For example, when told to avoid Hazard Island while looking for a specific food for baby dragons, no one is surprised when he goes straight for said island.

Main Dragon Characters

    Winger
Voiced by: Zach Callison
  • Big Brother Instinct: Is very protective of the rest of the Rescue Riders
  • Blue Is Heroic
  • The Ace: Easily the best flyer of the dragons.
  • Breath Weapon: Has plasma breath attacks reminiscent of Toothless' and has the potential to use a "Mega Blast" like his mother but hasn't got the hang of it by the end of season one at least not without help.
  • Super-Speed: Being a Swiftwing, Winger is one of the fastest dragons in the air.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Like all dragons, he's afraid of eels. Also dislikes bugs to the point of screaming

    Summer
Voiced by: Skai Jackson

    Burple
Voiced by: Noah Bentley
  • Breath Weapon: He can fire rocks he's eaten as projectiles.
  • Stomach of Holding: Has several stomachs and only uses one for digesting food. It's implied on one occasion he actually forgets what he has in them.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Afraid of eels, surprise birthday parties and many other things

    Cutter
Voiced by: Andre Robinson
  • Butt-Monkey: Usually gets the short end of the stick. Examples includes getting squished multiple times, getting trapped in Slinkwing goo, having his sharpener melted than stolen and getting framed twice.
  • Day in the Limelight: Has one in Hunt for the Golden Dragon, where he solves all of Waldando's clues, tricks the pirates and becomes the temporary leader of the Rescue Riders
  • Emotion Suppression: Subverted. Cutter is easily emotional at times, but usually tries to hide it behind his cockiness. However, he appears to have feelings for Aggro
  • Fast Tunneling: He's one of the few Relentless Razorwings to use his spikes to burrow into the ground while spinning, creating holes.
  • Small Name, Big Ego
  • Smarter Than You Look: Despite his reckless attitude, it's shown in Rescue Riders: Hunt for the Golden Dragon, that he's actually very intelligent, being able to figure out all of Waldando's clues and even tricking the pirates. It should be noted however that he's not a ditz.
  • Spike Shooter: Shoots the spikes that grows on his body as projectiles
  • Super-Senses: Being a Relentless Razorwing, Cutter has the best eyesight in the dragon world, allowing him to be able to see farther than many other dragon species.
  • The Prankster: Enjoys playing pranks.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Afraid of eels, although he won't admit it

    Aggro
Voiced by: Marsai Martain

Huttsgalor Residents

    Duggard
Voiced by: Carlos Alazraqui
The chief of Huttsgalor who is rescued by the Riders and invites them to live in the village.

    Hannahr
Voiced by: Moira Quirk
The blacksmith of Huttsgalor.

    Magnus Finke
Voiced by: Brad Grusnick
Huttsgalor's resident inventor. Not a fan of the Rescue Riders.

  • Expy: of Mildew from the original Dragons series. They both dislike dragons.
  • Fantastic Racism: He doesn't trust the dragons, due to hearing stories about "their kind" attacking villages.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He's got some pretty good inventions that could help the village a great deal, but his ego and eagerness to prove himself trips him up and causes problems the Riders usually have to fix.
  • Meaningful Name: He's a bit of a Jerkass, so he's definitely a "fink" but not really a villain.
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: He does want the Rescue Riders gone from Huttsgalor, though he only wants them gone from the village instead of dead or hurt.

    Elbone
Voiced by: Roshon Fegan
Huttsgalor's best fisherman and aspiring entrepreneur of... anything not fishing, really.

    Marena

    Finngard

    Axel Finke

    Ottil

Other Dragons

    Lurke and Vizza

    Snoop
Voiced by: Jeff Bennett
  • Affably Evil: Was an antagonist at first, but was just following Lurke's commands, and was genuinely nice back then as well
  • Anti-Villain: Is more of this in season 1 and 3, before he fully converts to being a protagonist
  • Because You Were Niceto Me: One of the reasons behind his Heel-Face Turn after the Rescue Riders helped him.
  • Butt-Monkey: Is never listened to by the other Slinkwings
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: In the season 4 finale, it's shown that Snoop doesn't get respect from his fellow Slinkwings
  • Heel–Face Turn: Has one in Day Without Dragons when he saved Dak and Leyla from the Slinkwings.
  • Idiot Ball: Is by far, not the smartest dragon
  • I Owe You My Life: Tells this to the Rescue Riders after they help him get the Slinkwing babies back, this comes true when he saves the twins from Lurke and Vizza
  • Token Good Teammate: Out of the three Slinkwings, Snoop is by far the friendliest and nicest.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Mistook a rock as an egg and tried to eat it, before claiming it was hard boiled.

    Heatey

    Mama Ironclaw

    Sizzle and his siblings

    Laburn and Cinda

    Grumblegard

    Zeppla

    Oscar

    Gludge

    Melodia

    Fathom and Gill

    Gemma

    Chillbert, Chillbill, Chilljill and Hank

    Sparkle
Voiced by: Tara Strong.
  • Actor Allusion: A winged unicorn-type character voiced by Tara Strong. Even shares a name.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Subverted. While a genuinely friendly dragon, she has no problems of framing Cutter to take his place as a Rescue Rider. She learns her lesson eventually.
  • Genki Girl: It's pretty obvious
  • Heel–Face Turn: A minor version of this, as she truly wasn't evil, despite framing Cutter.
  • That Came Out Wrong: A mild example when she told Cutter what her plan was so she could replace him on the Rescue Riders. Even she admits it.
