The heroine of the second game. She adopts Jennifer.- Abusive Parents: No, not Helen herself, but her own parents. The novelization of her scenario reveals that her father physically and sexually abused her as a child, while her mother kept quiet by it. This ended up affecting her as an adult, as she initially had a relationship with Professor Barton, who reminded her of her father.
- Action Girl: She's not afraid to shoot a gun or kick a psycho killer in the balls.
- Affectionate Nickname: Gotts calls her "Teach".
- Big Sister Instinct: Is very protective of Jennifer and doesn't want to force her to remember the Clock Tower murders.
- Cassandra Truth: If Helen calls the police in the first scenario, the operator refuses to believe her claims and hangs up on her — mostly because of previous prank phone calls claiming the same thing.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: Many of the deaths she can suffer, usually getting chopped up by Dan.
- Face–Heel Turn: In one ending of her novel Helen, Jennifer and Edward accept their murderous impulse and plan to start a new killing spree beginning with Edwards new adoptive family.

- Murder by Inaction: It is revealed in the novelizations that, as a young girl, when her abusive father had a massive angina attack and he begged for her to get his medication, she decided to go to the park instead.
- Senseless Sacrifice: In Ending B, although Helen banishes Dan into a vortex at the cost of her getting sucked in as well, Dan's hand later rises from the remains of the castle, meaning that Helen's sacrifice was in vain.
- Teacher/Student Romance: In the novelizations, she and Barton were in a relationship before the events of the games, which didn't work out due to how inhuman Barton was.

- Big Brother Instinct: The novelization reveals that his sister Julia was one of Mary Barrow's victims, which is why Nolan is so intent on investigating the Scissorman Murders, as he's trying to avenge her death.
- Big Damn Heroes: In Jennifer's scenario, he comes in and offers to fight Scissorman, which buys Jennifer enough time to seal Scissorman away in the vortex.
- Can't Hold His Liquor: If he takes a shot of alcohol at Rick's house, when he's being chased by Scissorman, he'll fall down a flight of stairs.
- Ephebophile: He falls in love with Jennifer, who is not only eleven years younger than him, but is a minor by Norwegian standards. But he also subverts this trope and is shown as a contrast to Harris in that their relationship is portrayed positively.
- Heroic Sacrifice: While the Scissorman chases him, Jennifer and Helen in the novelization of Helen's scenario, he stays behind to barracade a door and buy the other two time to escape, with him never being mentioned again afterwards.
- Intrepid Reporter: Has no problem inserting himself into the Clock Tower investigation, but also in Jennifer's scenario, will actually fight Scissorman to buy Jennifer some time.

Assistant inspector who is obsessed with solving the Clock Tower murders.- Big Damn Heroes: At the end of Ending A for Helen's scenario, he comes just in the nick of time to save Helen by shooting Scissorman and making him fall into the vortex.
- Can't Hold His Liquor: If he takes a shot of alcohol at Rick's house, when he's being chased by Scissorman, he'll fall down a flight of stairs.
- Chekhov's Gun: In Helen's scenario, he literally gives her a gun that she can use to save Jennifer.
- Heroic Sacrifice: When Scissorman chases after him and Jennifer in the Barrows castle in the novelization of Jennifer's scenario, he stays behind and holds off the Scissorman with a gun so that Jennifer can escape. The best ending of the novel reveals that Gotts survives this situation.
- Insistent Terminology: He's insistent on being referred to as 'Assistant Inspector' Gotts.
- The Nicknamer: He nicknames Helen "Teach" and gives nicknames to other characters as well.
- Running Gag: Gotts always insists that he is an "Assistant Inspector" whenever anyone refers to him as "Inspector Gotts".

An assistant psychology professor to Professor Barton, and someone the professor trusts to handle important errands.- Adaptational Jerkass:
- Jojo Otani’s tone of voice when he says "Jennifer" in the voice acting of the Japanese release after revealing to her his deal with Scissorman implies that he's regretful of what he's done. In contrast, his tone of voice is more creepy and lecherous in the voice acting in the American release.
- He's much more of a jerk in the novelizations than he is in the games once he reveals his involvement with the Scissorman, as he openly regards both Rose and Helen as sluts, feels pleasure with both Scissorman killing people and with killing people himself, and threatens to physically harm Jennifer for defying him.
- Jojo Otani’s tone of voice when he says "Jennifer" in the voice acting of the Japanese release
- Adaptational Villainy: He's far more horrible of a person in the novels than he is in the games:
- In Jennifer's scenario, the worst thing he does in the game is kidnap her under the real Scissorman's orders and act as a fake Scissorman. While he mentions being ordered to kill people, he doesn't explicitly say how he feels about killing his victims, and while he is lecherous towards Jennifer after kidnapping her, he shows no signs of wanting to physically hurt her. However, in the novelization, he explicitly mentions feeling pleasure from killing both Rose and Baker and threatens to chop off Jennifer's legs for her non-compliance.
- In Helen's scenario, he does nothing villainous and comes off as a bit of a jerk at worst. However, in the novelization, he explicitly gains pleasure in watching Beth's death, kidnaps Jennifer under the Scissorman's orders and leads Helen into a trap so that the Scissorman can kill her.
- Apathetic Citizens: In Helen's scenario, he seems very detached from the deadly situation and remarks nonchalantly that the Scissorman wants to kill Helen instead of him.
- Artifact of Doom: He gives Helen a key to unlock the Chapel in her scenario. But if the key is used, then Jennifer will die and it's impossible to get the best ending.
- Ephebophile: He falls in love with Jennifer, who is twenty years younger than him and is a minor by Norwegian standards. This serves as a contrast to Nolan's feelings for Jennifer, as Harris's feelings are treated like an obsession and he becomes the decoy Scissorman in Jennifer's Scenario because the real Scissorman promised him he could have Jennifer.
- I Have You Now, My Pretty: After kidnapping Jennifer in her scenario as the fake Scissorman, Harris notes that he has Jennifer all to himself. Luckily, Scissorman kills him before he could do anything more with Jennifer.
- The Killer in Me: He becomes the fake Scissorman in Jennifer's scenario.
- Love Makes You Evil: Falls in love with Jennifer and becomes the decoy Scissorman in her scenario when the real Scissorman promises him that he could have her.
- My God, What Have I Done?: In the Japanese release of the game, Harris sounds regretful of what he's done after he kidnaps Jennifer and tells her about his deal with the Scissorman in Jennifer's scenario.
- Off with His Head!: In Helen's Scenario, Helen can find his decapitated head inside of a bucket. Also, in both of the novelizations, he dies from having his head chopped off by the Scissorman.
- Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves:
- After becoming a fake Scissorman and kidnapping Jennifer in Jennifer's scenario under the real Scissorman's orders, the real Scissorman kills him right afterwards.
- In the novelization of Helen's scenario, after helping Scissorman murder Beth, kidnapping Jennifer and leading Helen into a trap to be murdered, the real Scissorman kills him.
- Stalker with a Crush: Harris from the second game is infatuated with Jennifer, so much that he becomes the fake Scissorman in her route because the real one bribed him with the belief that he would have her if he did so.
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness:
- In Jennifer's scenario, the real Scissorman murders him after he kidnaps Jennifer and brings her into the Barrows castle.

Jennifer's psychiatrist. Is really interested in the Clock Tower murders.- Critical Psychoanalysis Failure: Driven insane by Dan, who manipulated him into becoming a decoy to fool everybody.
- Face–Heel Turn: In Helen's scenario.
- Fake Boss: In the second game in Helen's scenario, this is Professor Barton, who was masquerading as Scissorman. If you haven't found the Door Spell by this point in the game, Helen concludes he was the real culprit and the game ends.
- Good All Along: In Jennifer's scenario.
- He Who Fights Monsters: Barton in the second game. Starts out studying Scissorman and then ends up being a fake one in Helen's scenario.
- The Killer in Me: He's the fake Scissorman in Helen's scenario.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Some official◊ artwork◊ has him having more than a passing resemblance to Anthony Hopkins.
- Lack of Empathy: Towards Jennifer, as he's using her to discover more on the Clock Tower murders with little regard for her own well-being.
- The Profiler: Professor Barton and all of his assistants are criminal psychologists working on the Clock Tower case. Slightly subverted in that Prof. Barton originally just views the Scissorman as "some nutjob."
- The Shrink: Depending on the scenario, Professor Barton can fit in Type 1 and 2. He acts as Jennifer's therapist, but is more interested in finding out the truth about the Clock Tower murders than in taking care of Jennifer's psyche. He also believes that Scissorman is something Jennifer fabricated to cope with her trauma, and is annoyed that Scissorman has been sensationalized by the press.
- Sour Supporter: In Jennifer's scenario. He's insistent that Scissorman is not real, but he'll still come along with the group to Barrow's Castle and ends up being vital in translating something for Jennifer.
- Teacher/Student Romance: With Helen before the events of the games, as the novel describes.

One of Professor Barton's research assistants and a close friend to Helen. She admires the close sisterly relationship between Helen and Jennifer.- Adult Child: She loves stuffed animals and goes along with the main characters to hunt for Scissorman because she think it'll be fun. She even compares it to a picnic.
- Break the Cutie: When everyone gets separated in the final scenario, Beth can be found in either Jennifer or Helen's scenarios hiding and scared out of her mind.
- Kill the Cutie: She's possibly the nicest and most sociable person of the cast, and she can become one of Scissorman's victims should either Helen or Jennifer fail in saving her. In either of the novelizations, her only fate is for the Scissorman to murder her horrifically.
- Jump Scare: If Helen allows Beth to follow her, Scissorman will appear and drag her through the floor.
- Nice Girl: She is very friendly and bubbly, and is genuinely concerned for Jennifer.
- Off with His Head!: One of her possible deaths in the novelization of Jennifer's scenario involves her head being chopped off by the Scissorman.

- Corruption by a Minor: Although in the end, she begs Edward to stop, as well as to spare her life. Dan kills her.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Edward's killing spree became too much for her, and she begs him to stop. He kills her for this.
- More than Mind Control: Dan was able to manipulate her, simply by his charms.
- My God, What Have I Done?: In Ending A, Kay feels guilty about allowing Edward's killing spree. Her pleading for him to stop ends up getting her killed.
- Pedophiles Are Evil: She's a repressed pedophile who is a willing accomplice in Edward's murders because of her feelings for him. Though she does beg him to stop in Ending A.
- Would Hurt a Child: Can kill Jennifer in Ending C.
