The Parker family
Alexander Jonathan "AJ " Parker
An imaginative young boy with a knack for mischief.
- Afraid of Needles:
- Book Dumb: If AJ's report cards are any indication...
- Creepy Child: AJ has shades of this, due to Ambiguous Innocence:
- Dead Guy Junior: It was thought the "Alex" part of AJ stood for "Alex (Pop)". It's actually "Alex", as in his deceased birth mom.
- Ditzy Genius: Some of AJ's "brilliant" ideas fall into this
- Fear of Thunder: Leading to this especially sweet moment.
- Ham and Cheese: AJ sometimes indulges in this.
- Hidden Depths: An excellent artist.
- Kids Shouldn't Watch Horror Films: Not that AJ listens.
- Love at First Sight: He instantly has a crush on Logan.
- Mr. Imagination: AJ, of course.
- Mouthy Kid: AJ has shades of this and he does ask some very good questions.
- The Prankster: AJ, AJ, AJ.
- AJ's Establishing Character Moment? Knocking down some porcelain miniatures with a toy gun and placing the blame on Magnus afterwards!
- Super Gullible: AJ falls for as many pranks as he plays them.
- Sweet Tooth: Cannot resist anything sugary.
- Wholesome Crossdresser: He may be interested in stereotypically masculine things, but he has mastered drag and makeup.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: For AJ, it's needles. And the dark.
- Wise Beyond Their Years: When AJ is not planning, executing, or getting punished for, a prank, he may be found philosophising.
Magnus
The Parkers' English mastiff, and AJ's partner-in-crime.
- Arch-Enemies: The squirrels Mary and Rob, who always steal his food.
- Big Eater: Magnus as he is a dog. Apparently he can eat thirty peanut butter sandwiches in a blink of an eye.
- Gasshole: Magnus!
- Talking Animal: Whether Magnus actually talks in real life or only in AJ's head remains to be seen.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Bacon treats
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Magnus and heights
Alexander "Alex" Parker
- Anger Born of Worry: The time when AJ pretended to drink poison.
- Bookworm: Enjoys reading in his free time
- Cargo Ship: A mild case, but he does seem devastated when Hoseanne was chewed up by Twix.
- Happily Married: To John
- The Insomniac: Due to his overthinking tendencies.
- In Touch with His Feminine Side
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Alex and clowns
Jonathan "John" Parker
- Abusive Parents: His father and mother are abusive in different ways. His father smashed AJ's tablet. His mother told the father to do it, makes excuses for him and says Alex isn't part of the family.
- Big, Screwed-Up Family: We later meet his sister Kerin, who was (apparently) a regular babysitter for AJ. When AJ (and later, Jon and Alex) walk in on her banging some random guy, she tries to defend herself by saying "at least [she's] not a groomer or something."
- The Bear: Large, muscular, hairy and gay? Check x 4!
- Big Fun: He's on the chunky side but he's a lovable goof.
- Bumbling Dad: Not the smartest but still very capable.
- Happily Married: To Alex
- Lethal Chef: His attempt at baking cookies speak for itself.
- Stepford Smiler: Where to begin, his stepfather is abusive and his mother constantly makes excuses, his job makes him miserable, he has sleep apnea and he's discriminated against for being gay. All these things combined lead to him having a heart attack
- The Prankster: AJ had to get it from somewhere.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: John and spiders
Aunt Rochelle
- Butt-Monkey: Often the victim of AJ's pranks.
- Evil Aunt: Downplayed. Aunt Rochelle isn't really evil, but she is obnoxious enough to be treated like she is one and none of her visits are ever welcome.
- Fat Bitch
- In-Series Nickname: The Roach.
- Jabba Table Manners: Not how you eat cookies, dear.
- Odd Friendship: Has one with Aunt Roz, to the point where they live together.
- Super Gullible: Believes actual foreign princes need her help.
Aunt Roz
A family friend who happens to be transgender.
- Cosplay: AJ not understanding what trans people are accuses her of being a cosplayer. Turns out he was Right for the Wrong Reasons.
- Deadpan Snarker: Alex and her can throw jabs at each other for hours.
- Friend to All Children: She plays along when AJ accuses her of being a supervillain, and seems to be fine hanging out with AJ's friends.
- Odd Friendship: Rochelle and her form one, to the point where they might be living together.
- Sitcom Archnemesis: Alex and her have this kind of relationship.
- Tough Love: She gives John some when he's in a rut after being turned down from a job for being gay.
- Trans Tribulations: Not seen on screen, but she does mention dealing with transphobic harassment, then we get the more recent Story Hour where she's accosted by a transphobic elderly woman who threatens her and Roz with a gun.
Kerin
John's other sister.
- Babysitter from Hell: She just starts off as rude, demanding AJ and Loca go to bed early. It turns out she did that, to let her boyfriend over for sex.
- Friends Are Chosen, Family Aren't: John hoped she'd be a good aunt, but she refuses.
- Harmful to Minors: Not the worst example, but she does have loud sex when the kids she's in charge of aren't asleep and could very easily hear it.
- Politically Incorrect Villain: She downplays her having sex where AJ could hear it, by saying that what she and her boyfriend do is 'natural' compared to Alex and John and then insults Roz for being trans.
- Straw Political: Right-wing anti-LGBT bigots and even uses the term 'groomer'. Earlier she disregards AJ quoting Alex's 'respect earns respect' line by saying she'll respect his opinion when the father joins the military.
Gram
- Abusive Parents: She constantly makes excuses for her husband and her own behavior, even if it's at the expense of her son.
- Domestic Abuse: Is a victim of this, that doesn't stop her from being abusive.
- Never My Fault: When called out for letting her husband smash AJ's tablet, she makes excuses, when she's criticized for this she calls her son oversensitive.
Friends
Ebony Adams
One of AJ's friends.
- Black Best Friend
- Child Prodigy: Given that she's made a device that sucks AJ and Magnus into a video game, she's definitely this.
- Glamorous Single Mother: Denise, Ebony's mother, a surgeon.
- Twofer Token Minority: Black and autistic.
"Loca" Sevilla
Bully-turned-friend of A Js.
- Bully Turned Buddy
- Known Only by Their Nickname: Loca's first name is unknown, and she'd like to keep it that way.
- Parental Abandonment: While Loca is staying with AJ's family during the COVID-19 pandemic, she gets a note from her parents saying they've moved and that she's going to be staying there "for a while". Apparently, they've done this before.
- Wholesome Crossdresser: She's more than a tomboy, she has dressed up as several male characters because she can.
Wild Animals
Rob and Mary
Twix
A wild Australian Queensland Heeler.
- Awesome Aussie: He's an Australian Queensland Heeler, and with the accent to match.
- The Bus Came Back: And with a vengeance!
- Put on a Bus
- Talking Animal: Just like Magnus, it remains to be seen if he talks in real life or just in AJ's head.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Cheese
- Urine Trouble: As a wild dog, it is imperative that you mark your territory everywhere.
