- As Fate Would Have It had one in April 2015, where 370-word fake conclusion was uploaded. Another April Fool's joke came in April 2018, where the author's notes implied that he was planning on doing the same for the latest chapter. Nope, the joke was releasing the real chapter under the guise it was going to be another prank.
- Anthropology released a fake Chapter 18, which appeared to be about Lyra discovering the actual My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic cartoon show... before abruptly diving into Crack Fic territory.Lyra: (after Bon-Bon is "revealed" to be a Soviet spy) This is such a plot twist.
- In 2020, an April Fools edition of CMC+ was released (with later builds being released yearly as separate downloads), featuring a roster of characters that leans completely into being a Weird Crossover all around; all of them either being of the joke (lethal or otherwise), memey, or Stylistic Suck variety. Highlights include a character called Spoiler — whose portrait is a spoiler warning logo, Gawr Gura's battle sprite depicting her as a realistic shark, and the character select name for Bowsette being "god help me".
- In 2013, Jake English's Mysterious Theater of Scientific Romance from the Year 3000 had Caliborn review the first chapter of Dragon Age: The Crown of Thorns.
- In 2010, Kristoph Gavin: Ace Attorney did one of these, where a minor character is suddenly revealed to be the true killer, and shoots the protagonist.
- The first On a Cross and Arrow chapter released for The Sweetie Chronicles: Fragments, taking Sweetie Belle briefly through the worlds of Doctor Who, House and Megamind. It's still available, by the way.
- In 2013, another April Fools' Day chapter was released, this one being the first The Immortal Game chapter—which is connected to the author's other fanfics on Fimfiction.net.
- The first released version of Super Smash Ponies. It shows the title screen, then a loading screen... loop ad infinitum.
- For April 1st, 2014, the dev team announced that progress on the game was ceased. The following day, a blog post was added claiming that no, the game was not dead and progress has not been ceased.
- The Facebook page for Super Smash Bros. Crusade posted a status update on April 1st, 2013 mentioning that Joe the Condor would be part of the character roster in the following version of the game.
- On April 1st, 2014, another status update was posted mentioning that the game has been bought by Disney and that all characters would be replaced by Disney characters. (Well, Sora may become a DLC character, so that's a start.)
- This video was released on April Fools 2014 on the McLeodGaming channel announcing the return of a 4th-party character from Super Smash Flash into SSF2.
- Played with by the author of Turnabout Storm:So this is the part where I would say Part 5 is canceled... and you all would be like all "OH NOEZ" and I would be like "APRIL FOOLZ", then you would be like "obvious AFD joke is obvious" or "U got me lol". But I think I've teased you enough, so let's just pretend I did that :)
- Similar to SSP, Raycord Legends released a demo on April 1st, 2015. This is the title screen of the game.◊
- Back when it was still being regularly updated, the authors of Seven Little Killers once announced they were abandoning the story on April 1st, waiting a very long time to reveal it was a joke. Not many of their huge fanbase really thought it was funny. More of a Harsher in Hindsight, now that it appears they have abandoned the fic for real.
- For April 1st 2013, a new chapter of Pokéumans was released in which within a few paragraphs a giant monster appeared from nowhere and killed everyone in a ridiculous overblown fashion.
- Xenophoolia, a collaboration between several different Xenophilia authors was this, especially because the multi-chaptered tale bounced back and forth between the different authors' accounts. Released on April Fools' Day of 2014, the story focuses on how Lero Michealides from ;Xenophilia: Further Tales' takes a wild tour through The Multiverse, culminating in him visiting the Lero Michealides from Divided Rainbow.

- In 2015, the author released a long list of "spoilers". While some are plausible, the rest are ridiculous.
- In 2016, a non-canon chapter was released. Megalon, Pinkie Pie, and Sonata Dusk have a dimension hopping adventure, and the fourth wall is completely demolished.
- In 2010, the fanfic Paradise In Death rickrolled readers in text form.
- On April 1st, 2015, Movie Night At Freddy's released a joke chapter which involved the characters of Five Nights at Freddy's reenacting the opening number of Les Misérables.
- On April 1st, 2017, a My Little Pony Meets animation was released involving The Loud House... except there are no ponies whatsoever.note It was all an April Fools' Day prank Luan set up.
- An elaborate joke from a group of Miraculous Ladybug fan-writers involved five stories published in quick succession, each titled after lyrics from "Never Gonna Give You Up", all with the same basic premise (Adrien and Marinette being set up on a picnic date by their friends in an attempt to get them together, some time after the two have revealed their secret identities to each other), and all containing a lot of the same jokes (Marinette spilling a drink on Adrien, Tikki and Plagg going missing (usually when an akuma attack starts), a character asking why someone was akumatized and getting the response "Oh my gosh! You can't just ask someone why they're akumatized!" and the story ending with the characters hearing "Never Gonna Give You Up" and acknowledging that they forgot it was an actual song).
- Pinkie Tales: "Discord Tales" was planned and written as an April Fools Day joke (as "Shaladdin" was actually the next episode scheduled to be released at the time), but its release date was delayed due to The Lost Narrator's cyst surgery.
- Chapter 25 of Pokémon Reset Bloodlines is a rather unusual example: it does have a few (albeit rather short) scenes that are canonical to the story, while the chapter itself is for the most part a hilarious portrayal of the author arguing with an Anthropomorphic Personification of Executive Meddling.
- The Downer Ending All Just a Dream ending to the Lucky Star webcomic Lonely Kagamin turned out to be an April Fools joke. The actual comic has a happy ending.
- Horse Wife announced in 2018 that a paid premium service would be required to read the comic.
- Persona: The Sougawa Files has one in Chapter 48, right before the battle with Shadow Tamiko. Rina abruptly hijacks the fanfiction, demanding the author rewrite certain parts of the story to give her a happier life. Eventually the author gets fed up with her trying to spoil important plot points and forcefully tries to wrestle control back, leading to an accidental chapter submission.
- Mirror's Image- An April Fool's Chapter was released on the 31st of March 2013. The chapter, which isn't canon to the fanfic, involves Twilight and Blueblood hooking up to annoy Spike, Pinkie Pie teleporting from the Wastelands to celebrate 'April Foal's Day' and Blueblood dying on his way back to his home planet.
- The official English Discord server for Touhou LostWord gets a Hostile Show Takeover during April Fools:
- 2023's event is done by Touhou Kanjuden ~ Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom's Doremy Sweet, with most of the channel names changed to reflect her.
- 2024's event is done by Touhou Eiyashou ~ Imperishable Night's Tewi Inaba. Like the year before, most of the channel names changed to reflect her.
- Chapter 30 of the Invader Zim fanfic Hey Spacejerk was written for April Fools Day 2019, and is a Crossover with No Fourth Wall. Titled "I Slap Floor", the chapter has Zim, Dib, Arthur Kingsmen, the Grinch, and Izuku Midoriya in a room together, discussing the fact that the author's fanfics (as well as those written by a friend of the author) seem to constantly place them into horrible situations. They remember everything that has happened to them in these stories, and naturally, they're not happy about it.Izuku: So, how long have they been picking on you guys?
Dib: Long enough that I can probably get my trauma a driver's license.
Izuku: ...I'm doomed, aren't I? - The Hollow Knight fic series To Reclaim a Dream had an "in a nutshell" version of its first installment released for April Fools' Day of 2023, styled in all lowercase letters. It hasn't been finished yet though.
- Poké Wars has the aptly named Poké Wars: The Nonsense, a collection of silly non-canon short stories by various authors of the 'verse that were usually released on April 1st.
