The first thing you'll see is a massive plush caterpillar wreaking havoc in a city. Standing ovation time!!
Seriously? A show about a huge plush toys attacking Earth* maybe it's because no other beings and entities are stupid enough to want to invade such craphole. and the only one who can stop them is magical girls because once again the modern military isn't albe to do shit? Why? Because magic.
What's worse, this isn't the first time such crap has come around. Nor second or third.
Then the anime treats us to terrorism, organized crime and human trafficking. But hey, magical girls. Everything's frillier with magical girls right?
Wrong.
No matter how much drama and gore you hydraulic-press into the show, it cannot be enjoyed by a sane erudite person. In fact the drama makes it all cringeworthy which is even worse than if the show ran completely on silliness. The whole thing is too contrived for comfort.
The mindless fannservice-ridden intermezzos of the girls hanging out don't help anything either.
It seriously evades my grasp, what kind of message is this supposed to deliver. Are you suggesting that the only one who can deal with all the real shit happening on Earth is a bunch of mentally scarred kids, with busts too big for their age* It's borderline creepy that they're all like D-cup already in middle school. and dressed in frilly outfits? Do the writers even realize, that they're being paid for this crap?
And who is the supposed target audience of this? Certainly not me.
The rendition also deserves its share of flak. While the art looks generally good and detailed, the animation sucks, especially in action. Most of the time you're treated to a sequence of rapidly alternating still shots. I'd call it flash slide show. If something is really animated, it's mosly only one thing at a time (most traditional animations suffer this ailment). If you need more things moving onscreen, resort to CG. Can't bother drawing backgrounds? Take photos of real environment from the internet and slightly modify them, so they look hand-drawn. There, problem solved.
Oh, Kadokawa? Square Enix? AT-X? K Lab? MBS? You're making yourself some reputation people. I suggest you reassign your staff back to writing hentai. They've obviously done it before.
Manga How can they still be at this?
