Fanfic Just...wow.
If you are interested in stories with happy endings, you would be better off reading something else.
All joking aside, this fic is dark. Extremely dark. Pitch-black. And yet it's also one of the best things I've read and one of maybe two fanfics that I recommend to everyone (everyone I think can handle it, at least). It belongs to that rare better class of Dark Fic and manages to keep the horror that belongs to that genre and the smut that a prison fic entails while still leaving room for the kind of character development and plot every story needs.
In the realm of other story functions, the author(s) is extraordinarily talented with more common storytelling devices—the Love Triangle, for instance, keeps you guessing the whole way (and eighty-some chapters in it still isn't clear who's going to end up with who) and every character is well-written and engaging, keeping their core personality while still fully exploring every ramifications of this kind of contextual reassignment.
This fic is well worth everyone's time as long as they can handle the sort of High Octane Nightmare Fuel it entails and probably should be required reading for the more mature members of the fandom as well as anyone who wants to write a full contextual reassignment.
Fanfic Heroes to Villains
This troper must second Harley's warning. This will destroy your childhood memories of Sonic the Hedgehog. Do not read this unless you are ready to directly inject the High Octane Nightmare Fuel into your bloodstream.
Blunt as that is, the story is rather fascinating just on the basis of role-reversal. All the characters are mostly unrepentant criminals while retaining the essential qualities of their personalities. This particular universe is where everyone simply used their talents/powers for their own personal profit. They did not learn the lessons from the games, nor did they find each other in their travels. By virtue of their own crimes and ability, they all end up in the highest security prison possible. The author(s) do not try to excuse their horrible crimes with sob stories and sudden revelations, or the incredibly depraved things that are done to each other as a part of prison life. At no point did this transformation seem contrived or ridiculous; it was merely the choice to benefit themselves instead of being heroes.
On that note, thanks for destroying my childhood memories! It's not like I needed those or anything.
Fanfic Dangerous, but strangely heartwarming
If you can't handle your High Octane Nightmare Fuel, don't even start reading this story. It is very dark.
On the other hand, it's also been praised by readers for only using Canon characters despite a huge cast, keeping them in-character and committing crimes that make sense, some very Heartwarming Moments from unexpected places, Character Development between Sonic and Shadow as their initially antagonistic relationship visibly changes, adapting memorable moments from the games, beating the hell out of Silver, and its portrayal of Scourge as a lunatic.
Although nobody has died just yet, the authors have confirmed that yes, Anyone Can Die.
FanFic It Sure Is Interesting.
The fanfic sure is interesting, a brand new take on the characters we all know and loved. It is an enjoyable fanfic, though alot of times the characters frustrate me.
Another thing, Sonic Frank did not quit. He was just very busy and the two authors got into an argument. He just wanted a break because he was busy with alot of things concerning his job and hobby. Breech decided to continue the fanfic on her own without discussg it with her co-writer first. And I've heard he's very hurt by her decision. Breech is not the sole writer and Sonic Frank does plan on continuing the Original Prison Island Break on his own because of Breech's decision.
