I think this was one of the best, multi-chaptered Canada/Russia stories I have ever read. The characterization of Canada and Russia were both well-developed and continue to be developed. Matthew is not a Sympathetic Sue nor is he a complete Deadpan Snarker who snarks every line. Instead, he is a perfect mixture of both, with even hints of being a bit like Alfred, mischievous and daring. And Russia is portrayed sympathetically and yet, there are many dark stains in his past where he had hurt others and himself including. The relationship between the two of them was simply amazing, as it builds up slowly and is never rushed. Russia is beginning to let go of the hate he carried for himself and becoming more comfortable in his own skin. And Canada never tried to force Russia to talk, but rather encourages him to let go of his self-hate and getting Russia to open up little by little. And with each chapter, we can see that secretly Russia is appreciating what Canada is doing and Canada is just happy that he was able to help.
