Actually, the Oompa-Loompa songs in this movie were lifted straight from the original books, and none of them were 00's pop songs. They were all different musical eras.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessOkay, I was wrong about that. That doesn\'t change my opinions of the songs much, I didn\'t like any of them. But the rest of my points still stand.
All I\'m saying is, it\'s weird to praise the book when this adaptation was way more faithful to it than the Gene Wilder version. No hate to the original movie, it\'s a classic for a reason, but that one altered a lot. If any had the books\' charm, it was this one.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI don\'t believe this was meant to be a remake, especially since key staff hadn\'t even seen the 1971 film. It\'s an alternate adaptation of the book first and foremost, so yes, there is the factor of the other film influencing the perception of this one, but not because the creators intended that.

Nope.
Now here's an example of how NOT to do a remake.
Virtually everything that made the book and 1971 film great, is absent here. There's no Candy Man song, the Oompa Loompas have been dumbed down to 2000's era pop singers, Willy Wonka has been body-snatched, and a very flat performance from the cast.
I felt a small part of me die inside when one of the kids said "retard" while playing a Call of Duty-esque game.
Simply one of the worst, most unfaithful, disposable and unnecessary remakes of all time.
The book and original movie will always be classic. But this just took a huge dump all over that.
