An Epic Opening for an Epic Series

If anyone ever had to ask me what my all-time favorite video game series was, I'd always say the Video Game/Uncharted Series. I love the characters, the story, the action and the cinematics. So, naturally, it seems best that I start at the beginning.

The story follows professional treasure hunter Nathan "Nate" Drake, speculated to be a direct descendant of Sir Francis Drake, as he searches for the legendary treasure of El Dorado. Accompanying him is the determined Journalist Elena Fisher, looking for the next big scoop for documentary work, who works as a great Foil and Love Interest. Together, the two of them travel to an uncharted island while fighting their way through pirates and mercenaries.

Almost everything about Uncharted is great. The main characters are great, the level design is great, and the action is great. One thing that so many people agree on is how cinematic the game can be, and I totally agree. The protagonist, Nathan Drake, feels like a modern day version of Indiana Jones and is voiced perfectly by Nolan North, and some of the levels can be downright epic. There's also a lot of replay value, as you can collect treasures scattered throughout the game, as well as different skins, difficulties and other ways to alter the game. I played through all difficulties and had a blast doing so.

If there is one problem I have with the game, it's that the antagonists are a bit weak. They aren't terrible, but they don't really come off as intimidating or all that evil. They just seem to be interested in getting rich and that's honestly pretty boring.

With that said, I still think Uncharted was a great game and the games that followed just get even better. It gets an 8/10.
