This movie is terrible.

It is a boring, unimaginative bundle of cliches and a frankly sickening attempt to bank largely on nostalgia in place of anything actually happening. The film is named "Bumblebee" so you'd expect it to focus on the eponymous autobot, right? Wrong, it's focused on the main girl Charlie and her high school bullshit. The plot is literally just any 80s family movie with a freaking robot dropped into it. Complete with an extremely shoehorned soundtrack is 80s films that are intended to make you go "I RECOGNIZE THAT SONG."

The film is also absurdly safe; It's clearly written with small children in mind and goes out of its way to avoid any kind of excessive violence and gore. The villains are so 2D the idea that the military would even consider working with them is laughable. It's obvious that this is the product of a dozen focus groups asking the directors to pander to separate crowds. The most egregious of which is John Cena being asked to play the human antagonist, and the Transformers using their extremely simple 80s designs. But more than anything else, it's just boring. It is far inferior to Bayformers, both in effects and choreography.

Do not watch this film. It is mind numbing.

\"It\'s obvious that this is the product of a dozen focus groups asking the directors to pander to separate crowds.\"

Well if that\'s the case, then why did they address the criticisms the fans had of the previous films and improve upon them?

And while Charlie does deal with \"high school bullshit\", she\'s effectively a bizarro Replacement Scrappy, being far more likable than Sam ever was.

Oh, and so what if the 80s designs are more simple? Quite frankly, it\'s very refreshing to see a modern reboot that stays true to the original designs, which more more colorful and less clunky.

@Aspie Fangirl 1984 They didn\'t approve upon them. They created a safe kids movie that pandered to manchildren and literal children alike. Nothing in this film is superior to any of the other Live Action Transformers. Even now, the best praise it\'s gotten is that it wasn\'t done by Michael Bay.

Your complaint is that it seems like it\'s focus-tested to appeal to children?

This movie is explicitly made for children. It was made to appeal to younger children than the live-action Transformers movies up to this point. It\'s got a lower age rating so children can watch.

That\'s not to say that movies for kids can cut corners or be dumbed down and simplistic for the sake of it. Media like The Princess Bride and Watership Down is unabashedly cinematic and enjoyable for all ages, and those things have stood the test of time because of that universal appeal adding a sense of timelessness. But silly kid-oriented movies do exist, they do have appeal and this particular one did very well with its target audience.

You say this movie \"pandered\" to children. I would say that this movie was explicitly made for children, and you\'re complaining because it\'s too \"simplistic\" and \"childish\" for you.

Come sail your ships around me, and burn your bridges down.

Also, Codafett, you don\'t need to be so jerkish (\"pandered to manchildren and literal childre\") about it.

So your complaint is that a movie based on a child\'s toy is.... geared towards children?

My alignment is Chaotic Cute.
