If you liked Ender's game and disliked the illogical parts of Harry Potter, you'll like this

If you go into this story expecting a traditional For Want of a Nail Harry Potter fan fiction you are going to be very disappointed, if you strongly prefer idealistic gumshoes over utilitarian pragmatists you probably won't enjoy this fic, if you are pregnant or have a heart condition then you should consult your doctor before reading this fic. It's best to treat this fic like its own story, completely independent of the original. The setting is greatly expanded upon, backstories are rewritten, basically every character is an Alternative Character Interpretation, and the magic system is almost entirely reworked. The author saopboxes frequently, but honestly, I didn't mind. It never felt too out of place, and even if I didn't always agree with his ideas they were at least thought provoking. Harry comes off as a bit of a Marty Stu early on, but if you take the fic as a whole he isn't any more extraordinary than your average run-of-the-mill Chosen One in comparison to the setting and the threats he faces. And he certainly isn't a flat character, his emotional and moral struggles are interesting and well written, and his more literal challenges are as fascinating as they are clever.

It's very well written, the characters are great, the plot is great, and the ideas are great. I honestly enjoyed it more than the actual Harry Potter books. 10/10 fic would recommend.

\"It\'s best to treat this fic like its own story, completely independent of the original\"

That\'s kinda the mindset you should have with every derivative fanwork ever made ever, Especially one with such thematic dissonance as this. Just sayin\'.

And yet, the author deliberately chose to set the story in the Harry Potter universe, with all the trappings and characters thereof, thereby directly inviting any and all comparisons.

Besides, I\'ve read at least as many complaints about the writing and storytelling as the \"ruined my childhood\" stuff.
