Boys Will Be Boys: A real low point for the series

I don't usually give out negative reviews. However this season nine episode made me so upset and depressed that I had given the series away, so I have to make an exception.

The episode begins by portraying Teens Are Monsters, and when Tess wants to take action she is portrayed as reactionary and wrong. Were it just this I could overlook it. However even though the teens have a rap sheet a mile long and are scornful of everyone they are treated as the victim and made to look blameless for their actions, with police action treated as heavy handed.

When the people of Mount Thomas rightly ask what is going to be done they are treated as idiots, a clear case of the writer believing the police are above question. The concerned citizens are then flanderized into being stuck up vigilantes taking the law into their own hands and acting childish.

One of the characters in particular is hounded by PJ for taking action because his mother was a victim. Not only would a detective not be able to get away with this in a show that was still being very accurate and true to life, Jo condemns the victim for being a momma's boy. Not only is this Harsher In Hindsight with many people these days staying at home, rather than the comment being made in private about someone like Vince Platt (a pedophile, child killer and mommas boy) this was said in public. And the funny thing is not long after this Jo moves back in with her parents.

All in all this is a terrible episode, a sloppy Author Tract that brings the series to a grinding holt because of a case of Writer On Board.
