One folder is too large and needs splitting.

Since someone asked about the deletion of Big-Lipped Alligator Moment from the main page: It's a YMMV trope, therefore it goes on the YMMV tab by default. Someone originally put the "invoked" tag to suppress the YMMV notice but I don't think it deserved it:

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: "How To Get A Raise" is full of these despite being allegedly educational. Besides the fact that you must earn a raise to pay for your cat's cancer treatment, the mouse in your boss's office can talk, and turning away when it tells you to will, in the words of one commenter, cause a "magic female rapist" to appear and begin stripping. And if one waits around for too long then, the cop from "How To Get Out Of Speeding Tickets" will literally appear from nowhere, call you a pervert, and arrest you. The whole sequence is tellingly rather low on commentary.note

YMMV is kind of a fuzzy issue on this page, since Retsupurae is kind of a "meta-work" so a lot of audience reactions bleed into the work itself; for instance, I think that if Slowbeef and Diabetus insist that two male characters in the game are fucking, or edit the video footage to change the plot of the game, it's perfectly reasonable to consider this "invoked" Ho Yay or Fanon Discontinuity, respectively. The above, however, is just a thing that happened. The commentators don't reference or exhibit the trope in any way. It's just a straight example, which means it goes on YMMV like any other straight example of a YMMV trope. And as I originally put it in my edit description, "invoked" doesn't mean "I didn't feel like putting my YMMV example on the YMMV tab"

What exactly is the difference between the "retsupurae" and the "slowbeef and diabetus" folders. There is a bit of overlap...

I see it as distinguishing tropes common to the concept of Retsupurae (since different groups have participated, not just on the channels headed by slowbeef and Diabetus). However, as you say, there's a good deal of overlap. That may just be a relic of when the list of tropes got split up into multiple folders and the "Retsupurae" folder never got completely cleaned out.

Don't know what happened to my question, but should we add tropes about Retsutalk?
