Both tropes cover the popular Nice Guy archetype on a high school/college campus, but I think The Quarterback specifically requires him to be the captain of his sports team (usually the quarterback of the American football team in popular media) while contrasting him against Jerk Jocks or less reasonable sportspeople on campus. On the other hand, Big Man on Campus isn't necessarily sports-related and mainly emphasizes him being popular and seen as cool by other students, though there is sometimes some overlap between the two tropes.

Oh no! The DREADED AQUAE MORTIS! No, wait, it's just your imagination. What about the difference between Captain Ersatz and Lawyer-Friendly cameo?
That's a wrap, folkes Hide / Show RepliesI think the distinction is that Captain Ersatz tends to try and claim that the character is someone else, while a Lawyer-Friendly Cameo just doesn't say the name. For example, if you draw a character who looks suspiciously like Mickey Mouse and call him Ricky Rat, that's a Captain Ersatz, while if you leave him nameless that's a Lawyer-Friendly Cameo. I'm not completely certain on that though.
