  • Blooper: A small one when Judy is preparing a meal inside the microwave oven. Through the glass she appears to wear a pink shirt even though the next shot shows that she's still wearing her meter maid uniform. The pink shirt was from a Deleted Scene that has her changing clothes when she gets home, meaning the producers forgot to change one of the shots with her wearing it.

With edit reason

Ultimately, not a blooper. Judy's ZPD uniform has a high collar that goes halfway up her neck and that's what's visible through the microwave glass in this scene. The pink shirt from the deleted scene is a low-cut, open neck shirt that would have been too low to been visible through the glass at all. While it's true that what little you can see of Judy's ZPD shirt does have a pink-ish/purple-ish tinge to it, given that the camera is positioned INSIDE the microwave and its rotating plate is a garish lime-green color, you can't really say that Judy's ZPD collar not being dark blue when seen through the microwave glass is actually a blooper. In any case, Judy is wearing her ZPD uniform for the entire scene.

I would contest this. I just rewatched the scene and to me, it definitely does look like Judy is wearing the wrong shirt in that shot. I really don't think that the microwave's glass is somehow discoloring the view of her shirt; I'm pretty sure that's actually a pink shirt.

Given how late into production they were when the story was 100% finalized, it's not terribly surprising that this might happen. They may have already rendered a version of this scene where she changed clothes, and reused this shot because they didn't notice (or didn't expect the audience to notice) that the pink shirt was visible in this shot.

I'm ultimately speculating here; I don't actually know why it happened and I don't have access to the source used by whoever first added this example.

Nonetheless, it definitely looks like a different shirt to me, differing not only in color but in overall appearance of the collar compared to her police uniform.

rva98014 seems somewhat familiar with this deleted scene and describes the shirt in it as a "low-cut, open neck shirt". However, to me, that sounds like a description of exactly what she's wearing in the microwave shot, which has no sign of the high collar going up her neck. I also don't understand the assertion that such a shirt would be too low to be seen at all in the shot, given that the shot has her shoulders visible.

I don't agree with the suggestion that it's just a trick of the light; to me it seems clear that it's an entirely different shirt.

You're correct and I jumped the gun. The pink shirt is from the deleted scene "Home Sick Hopps" (you can find it on Youtube). What struck me about the shirt being shown in the microwave glass is that there seemed to be a collar that was coming up her neck (like her ZPD uniform) whereas her pink shirt had no collar.

I went back and blew up the images from the Blu Ray and collected them together you can see it here.

I thought originally, that Judy was standing up at the microwave. But I realize now, that the image at the microwave door could be Judy bent forward and looking down into microwave which would cause her pink shirt collar to "ride up" her neck. The more I look at it, the more it seems that she is wearing the pink shirt from the deleted scene. Probably the creative team didn't want to re-render the microwave scene and used the one from "Homesick Hopps" not expecting anyone to notice the shirt.

Mea Culpa. We should put the blooper back.

I just removed this because Recycled Script doesn't apply to stuff recycled from unpublished in-development versions, and a few of the sub-examples are more about recycling sets and visual assets, than plot points, so it's Square Peg Round Trope.

however, I thought I'd repost it here in case anyone wants to refactor it into a more appropriate trivia entry such as What Could Have Been.

  • Recycled Script: If one has seen videos or pages on the development of Zootopia, you will notice that much of the films' original script is reused in the final film:
    • In the scene where Judy chases down Duke Weaselton, she was originally chasing down Nick, who was trying to evade capture after going savage without his collar.
    • When Judy and Nick go to see Manchas to ask him about what happened to Otterton, in the original draft, they went to talk to him about the wolf that shot him with a serum.
    • It turns out that the Night Howlers that is mentioned throughout the final film is actually taken from the original draft where the sheep Wooly, who worked for Swinton, would use it to make predators like Nick go savage while he stayed under disguise.
    • The scene where Nick leaves Judy after she implies that the predators are reverting back to their old ways is actually related to a original draft where Nick leaves Judy after he learns that she had told her superiors about Wild Times.
    • Even the scene where Bellwether offers to make Judy the face of the ZPD is possibly based off of Mayor Swinton offering her a promotion for her work.
    • While it might seem hard to believe, the Dance Party Ending at the end of the movie is also based off of the original draft where Mayor Swinton would announce at the end of Gazelle's concert that she would be exiling all predators from Zootopia.

Weaselton notes that some of his films haven't even come out yet- that would have been M[e]o[w]ana, presumably :)?

(Actually, who needs love when one has music?...)
