Most things called a Shout-Out aren't.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanPeople keep calling the Sassy/Fleur/Luna body model Nonstandard Character Design. Isn't "same as existing character", like, the opposite of non-standard?
Hide / Show RepliesI don't think so, at least in this case. After all, the overwhelming majority use the one character design that the mane six share, and three ponies use the Luna/Sassy/Fleur design in total (that I can think of), making it rather nonstandard, IMO
Edited by Acebrock My troper wallThis trope is widely abused. The fact that there is some variation in the female design is nothing surprising, hardly qualifying as an example. Only characters that are clearly standing out, like Bulk Biceps, Troubleshoes or the obese pony from this episode are genuine.
I agree with StFan. Even when Fleur was the only non-alicorn to have that model when "Sweet and Elite" came out, I think it was a borderline example; now it's "Oh, another mare built like Moonbutt."
So the Sibling Yin-Yang entry says that the goth pony and bright pony are sisters as per Word of God, and yet no external link providing this has been given. Does anybody know who on the show said it and do they have a link?
Hide / Show RepliesShould Word of God be changed to a pothole for a link to the tweet?
EDIT: Potholed the tweet after word of god: "blahblah Word of God here yada".
Edited by pvsageSassy has a long, impressive resume, but she suggests that this is partly because she's worked some of her former employers out of the business. Do we have a trope for someone who's been fired a lot, or is that Too Meaningless To Trope in today's economy?
Hide / Show RepliesNot necessarily. Her reputation with Cosmare and ability to gather both publicity and orders could suggest that she was competent while her previous employers were not. Also, the line is "another failed boutique," which implies the failure of the business rather than a strictly personal failure. It is completely possible that, much like Rarity, other boutiques that had been founded by rising designers foundered, like Canterlot Carousel almost did, in a new larger market like Canterlot's. Rarity's reluctance to hire additional help or to accept that large numbers of orders for a single product could be good for the business might have satisfied her artistic sensibilities while contributing to possible economic problems.
^ Thanks. It does imply that failure follows her though...perhaps a failure Hero of Another Story?
I think PDL's foreshadowing edit fits nicely.

Are Sassy Saddles and Fashion Plate shout outs to anyone in the industry in particular, the way Photo Finish and Hoity Toity were? I think it would be a shame if they weren't.
