So, how hard does Chesterton take the idiot ball at the end of Episode 4 when he loses the fluid link? Enough to call it a trope?
- Just Here For The Daleks: In the eyes of some fans, the only interesting thing about this serial are the Daleks. In fact, this is the only Dalek serial that wasn't marked in some special way.
Admittedly, I haven't really seen it, but is this really the case? What exactly does "wasn't marked in some special way" mean?
Hide / Show RepliesDoesn't work. No one tuning into The Daleks knew what the Daleks were until after the serial, meaning there couldn't be Dalek specials until this one happened. That's like saying you went to Laney High School basketball games to watch Michael Jordan even though he was a nobody at the time. It doesn't make sense.
Plus, the trope doesn't even apply: With no Dalek story before it, we're not bringing back a recurring element with higher stakes at all. We're just introducing it. You could argue that later stories do this: Dalek Invasion of Earth? Yep. Dalek? Definitely. Daleks in Manhattan? You didn't watch that one for the script.
And besides, you're being WAY too harsh on the story. The story is regarded almost universally as a classic by everyone except the most incredibly impatient, and worth watching for it's own merit.
So, we get a full colour George Lucas Altered Version for the anniversary.
Probably best to hold off adding tropes for that to the page until it's actually released, though.
