Has anyone ever seen the inversion of this? I.e. when a character awards everybody, who shows basic decency, as if it was something special (because said person lives a crapsack-world life)

For posterity, here is the YKTTW archive for this trope and here is the TRS thread that lead to renaming it.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.

Virtue Is Own Reward is a misleading title. For the person in question, virtue is definitely not enough of a reward.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.
-Philip K. Dick
Do situations where a character expects not to be treated like dirt, or at the very least not being treated worse than people whom do not even meet the standards of basic decency (To quote Terry Pratchett, "The main difference between Trekkies and Manchester United fans is that Trekkies never trashed a train carriage. So why are the trekkies the social outcasts?", i.e. expecting basic decency to be met with basic decency in return, and being upset it is not), qualify under this trope or not?
