Does Pokemon Chronicles count? It's a side stories spinoff that revolves around characters other than Ash. However, barely anyone talks about it, and while it has a 7.7 on IMDB (and the main series has a 7.1), only about 700 people rated Pokemon Chronicles, and more than 50,000 viewers have rated the main Pokemon anime. Does it count, anyways?

Laptop Guy changed a note in the trope definition from:

NB: If a spinoff is neglected by the fanbase, but got great critical write-ups or lots of awards, then it's not this trope — they should have their own trope eventually.

to:

NB: If a spinoff is neglected by the fanbase, but got great critical write-ups or lots of awards, or started in the shadow of a bigger show but gradually escaped pit [sic], then it's not this trope — they should have their own trope eventually, but for now can be considered semi-examples.

And restored two examples that were deleted for not fitting that criteria under a new "Semi-Examples" heading:

  • Parks and Recreation, sister to the US version of The Office (created by the folks who run that show and using the same mockumentary format) hasn't attracted nearly as much heat as its sibling, but its ratings are respectable and critics have rallied around it in its second season. However, by the time the show went off the air it was rivaling The Office in cultural impact, having grown a very large and vocal fanbase, and most people will be hard-pressed to remember it began as an also-ran to The Office.
  • Breaking Bad and Mad Men, although highly acclaimed shows, were originally stuck in the shadow of AMC's mega-hit The Walking Dead. The former show escaped it after its final season, and today is probably more ingrained in pop culture than The Walking Dead despite never coming close to it in viewership. The latter, while taking longer to catch on, also became just as big a pop culture staple by the end of its run.

The very concept of "semi-" examples violates Examples Are Not Arguable. Either it's an example or it's not. Accordingly, I re-deleted the entries and changed the note to omit the concept of "semi-examples" and the reference to entries like these having their own trope eventually.

I could see the concept of a show beginning in the shadow of a more-acclaimed predecessor but escaping it potentially getting its own Trivia page, but that would need to go through YKTTW instead of shoehorned into a related page in the meantime.

While we're on the subject, this page seems more like an Audience Reaction Trivia page than a trope. I'm going to take a gander through the forums to try and determine how to go about fixing that.

Yep, no "semi examples" please.
