What's the deal with the name? Is it an Incredibly Lame Pun? An intentional misspelling of pensive? WHAT?!

The trope description says this trope only applies to someone viewing their own memories, in an apparent attempt to separate itself from Exposition Beam. But a lot of the examples don't obey this rule (including 90% of the Trope Namer, for whatever that's worth). Something is wrong here, but what needs to change? The examples, or the description?
