Most of the examples have zero context of why character Y was more appropriate for the task than character X. How should this be cleaned up?

Well... a clean up thread in Short Term Projects might be in order. Since this trope as-is seems to just be about a straight Stock Phrase, the description could be tweaked to require more context and asking why the X is worse than the Y.
The description seems like it's trying to sound like it's not just about the stock phrase, but a particular situation... but let's face it. It's about the phrase.
