You know, as Double Standard as this may smack of to some, as the last part of the article read, a generation or two ago, things were the exact opposite; men went to college (that is, if higher-education type jobs were their thing), while women usually tried to major in scoring a family. There were far more jobs available that didn't require a degree, and paid more. Plus the general expectations of both genders which were typical of that day helped as well.

I'm writing all this because it's listed in the Gender Dynamics Index. Of all the things that seem to be pigeon-holing women into a certain 'dynamic', it just strikes me as odd that the women being the ones to go to college would be one of them.

I don't mean to come off as harsh, just pointing something out.

Those are very good points, though I think the article at least partly addresses them by pointing to this as an Evolving Trope.

I think the reason we see this trope is partly down to an exaggeration of a real life change but also down to a Girls Need Role Models mentality that is afraid to show female students as other than good students while a male hero can be as Book Dumb as needs be. In its way it can be seen as equally as sexist against women.
