I remember reading somewhere that Krazy Kat was actually genderless. Confirm/deny?

The "inversions and subversions" section has so many examples of Not a Subversion, listing any combination of dog, cat and gender that wasn't a straight example up to and including "lots of dogs and cats of multiple genders" and "male cat, no dog", that I reckon the simplest solution is to clear everything apart from pure female dog/male cat inversions. If there are examples of the trope actually being subverted (that is, the work leads you to expect the cat will be female and the dog will be male, and then they're not), I'm not seeing them.

Removed questionable examples:

  • Same with Pete and Peg and PJ and Pistol, even though Pete and PJ are treated like Dogfaces rather than like cats, which they are.

As I've said on this page, Goof Troop being an amazingly unhelpful source for character species, there is no reason to assume that Peg and Pistol are dogs since they have the same defining features Pete and PJ do (small noses, round faces, and Pistol's pointy ears/Peg's decidedly non-doglike ones.) For that matter, Beret Girl is also as tricky to identify as Peg is, since she has relatively flat round face, a small nose, and human-like ears. If anything, her almond-shaped eyes make her look more catlike than doglike.

Still not a fan of the Digimon example, on the grounds that 1) that's a mischaracterisation of Gabumon - he's shy and quite polite and 2) he's not canine. He's a lizard in a removable wolfskin.

After thinking back on the show the former is true. However the fact that he turns into a wolf makes hims a Canine. Also the Digimon games qualifiy Gabumon as beast type rather than Dragon type.
