Removed the following as said game was listed earlier on the page:

  • The obscure NES game Moai Kun is an action puzzle game very similar in playstyle to others of the era, but features a "young" moai as the protagonist and levels with a Pacific island theme.

Moving these examples here because it would help if we knew the name of the stories

  • There's a short story I can't remember the name of in which the first moai were designed by a disgruntled time traveler as a caricature of his Pointy-Haired Boss. The punchline is that when he returns to his own time, he finds that his boss has grown a moustache while he was away, so nobody recognises the resemblance.
  • A short story by Robert Heinlein, the name of which escapes This Troper, revolved around a campaign for political office in Atlantis, wherein the eventual victor decides to get his name out by having massive stone likenesses of himself erected in a "swing state" which would eventually become Easter Island.
