Bifauxnen is commonly misused. She doesn't have to be taken for a man as long as she has the charm, elegance, and style of a man. I like to think of it as being One of the Guys if the guys were gentlemen.
Okay, I think I may have a variation on this trope: The "bifauxnen" is actually fairly girly looking, but they lack many "girly" interests (ie: shopping, boys, makeup) and have shades of the Otaku Surrogate. The "Lad-ette" is much more boyish looking* , is more athletic, and acts as a Red Oni to the aforementioned girl's Blue Oni.
Is this an example? Or a gender-flipped Light Masculine and Dark Masculine?

I'm open to any suggestions for new examples! Just give 'um to me!

Priss from Bubblegum Crisis (2032/33) is a Ladette, but Sylia is hardly a Bifauxnen, is she? She wears her hair short, but since she dresses like a film noir vamp she isn't likely to be taken for a man.
