I'm not really sure if this constitutes fridge brilliance, but if you listen to the English version of God Knows (the song from Live Alive), it almost sounds as if it was written from Kyon's and Haruhi's perspectives on the events of the disappearance movie (the first verse being from Kyon's perspective, the second from Haruhi's, and the chorus being shared between them, as it applies to both of them more-or-less equally). Think about it:

Blazing on by There's nothing more that I could do (Things happened too fast for Kyon to do anything about it, he assumes whatever happened was Haruhi's fault.) I'm sorry that I'll never be with you again (He initially assumes that Haruhi has disappeared completely and that there's nothing he can do about it, typically understated response to avoid admitting how much her disappearance bothers him.) Even though My heavy heart is parched with pain I know somehow Your sorrow's something I won't see (I got nothing for this bit; anyone who has any suggestions, please reply.)

It's my life I'm moving on and never going back there (I don't need the SOS Brigade; I'll move on with my life without you guys (can you say "denial?")) The future's turned away And leave me on the lonely rail (starting to acknowledge that the Brigade and its members were important parts of his life.)

God knows that I will follow you if that is what you wanted (him being honest with himself, admitting that he'd follow Haruhi and do whatever she asked of him (see his response when he thinks that she may have started a second SOS Brigade in the new world: he starts panicking at the idea that he won't be a part of her life anymore. He also becomes more and more accepting of her ridiculous demands over time.)) Take me into all your darkest shadows (Waking up in the alternate world with no explanation for anything was basically a worst case scenario for Kyon, hence "darkest shadows.") And you'll see that I'm even stronger than you could know (Kyon puts up with a lot of stuff that Haruhi doesn't know about due to her being locked out of the loop; also works specifically for the movie: he basically goes through hell to get everything back to the way it should be, which is something that Haruhi will probably never know about. It's also stated several times that Haruhi doesn't really take Kyon seriously, despite him stepping up and doing some pretty badass stuff.) God knows that I am standing here and you could disappear (She did, in fact, disappear.) Slipping right over the edge of the future (Travels back in time three years to fix stuff. It could also work as just a generic "you're slipping over the edge of [whatever] and I'm afraid I'll lose you. Either works.) If I had my way We'd be together forever Eternally god blessed (These last three lines are pretty self-explanatory)

The way you're standing there I feel as though we're almost one again (The Haruhi from the altered timeline is aware of what happened in the original world to a certain extent. She knows that she and Kyon should be together but aren't in this world, which clearly bothers her.) And yet We're miles apart in time (Kyon and Haruhi's differing memories divide them in a way that can't really be fixed without restoring her memories to what they originally were. Even if Kyon had stayed in the alternate world and pursued a relationship with Haruhi there, it wouldn't have been the same thing as them hooking up in the original world, which both of them must be aware of.) Beneath the pale blue moon (It was midday when they first met in the alternate world, but I'm sure that bit's not important.) I see your eyes are glistening With so much love! It's tearing you apart to be here! (Look at Kyon during this. The guy goes through hell to get his old life back, and he's clearly distressed when he first sees Haruhi in the alternate timeline.)

You know it (Basically saying that Haruhi already knows what Kyon would go through for her, or that if they doesn't, she should, and vice versa.) God knows that I will follow you if that is what you wanted Take me into all your darkest shadows (Haruhi admitting how much she cares about Kyon (she stays by his side for three whole days while he's in a coma without ever once leaving, and when he finally wakes up, she acts like it's no big deal) and that she's willing to make sacrifices for him.) And you'll see that I'm even stronger than you could know (Fairly self-explanatory: I can deal with the stuff that you think I can't (like, maybe, her reality warping powers?)) God knows that I am standing here and you could disappear (She's constantly worried about losing him; see Melancholy part 6) Slipping right over the edge of the future (Who is she most worried about stealing him away from her? The time traveling Mikuru, who comes from the future.) If I had my way We'd be together forever Eternally god blessed (Still pretty self-explanatory, just said from Haruhi's perspective this time.)

So yeah, I'd say it works pretty well (if you listen to it with the assumption that Kyon is in love with Haruhi and simply in denial, which seems to be a fairly popular interpretation from what I can gather). I don't know if the events of the fourth novel were planned when the lyrics were written, but if they were, I'd say there's a good chance at least some of this is intentional. Unless I'm just reading way too much into it, which is always possible.

Having read over this post, which took me over an hour to write and edit, I'd like to aplogise for the compressed format. Each capital starts a new line in the song, but there isn't enough space to give each line its own . . . line. Sorry 'bout that!

Why does everybody find Someday in the Rain so boring? I personally timed it, and it only spends three minutes and 16 doing nothing other than Showing Nagato reading. I get that that's kind of a long time to not have anything visually interesting onscreen, but I've seen people exaggerate it to the episode being 50% her reading and nothing else, when its actually closer to a seventh of the episode's runtime, not half. I get that the entire episode was actually really slow paced compared to other episodes in the show, but it wasn't like nothing was happening the entire episode. So why does it get so much hate?

Be...cause it was dull? It was a slice of life episode, the point was to show that nothing horribly exciting happens all the time.

I didn't mind it, but it was intentionally boring.

And 1/7 of the screen time is absolutely excessive.

UNMARKED DISAPPEARANCE SPOILERS!

I don't know how to edit, so I'm a reply to the Fridge Logic!Disappearance post: If I remember Disappearance's plot correctly, Kyon started the reality-repairing process BEFORE he knew why Yuki did it. If he had known the real reason, maybe...

Yuki has never spelled out the WHY yet and future novels may cast further light on this.

"Show us the Galaxy Warp."
