There are so many SI-OC (Self-insert Original Character) fics on here now that they probably need their own page- they don't really meet the definition of "For Want Of A Nail" anyway and ever since Dreaming of Sunshine they've become a subgenre unto themselves.
Edited by ArcaneAzmadi Always expect the worst and you can only be pleasantly surprised. Is the alphabetization really necessary? I mean, I'm sure that there's some justification for it, but I hate having to sift through dozens of fics at a time to see if a new one has been added. I'd much rather be able to just scroll automatically to the bottom and just check like that. Using the History page isn't exactly a big help.
Hide / Show RepliesYou'll have to take it up with Arcane Azmadi as he's the one that's put the time and effort into alphabetizing them. You could always check with a moderator as well to see what the official way of doing things are. Personally, I agree with you but I'm not willing to undo his work.

I know I'm slightly late, but why not add the date of recommendation to the "standard"? That way it could still be sorted alphabetically and people who don't want to visit the history page would still be able to see if it's something new (because sometimes there are so many lesser edits on the history page it's a pain to sift through them).
Because people will forget it. They already forget other key parts (like the review box links and adding themselves as the one recommending), and are lazy enough to not bother.
That's true, sadly. And it means we are in an impasse with the whole thing.
Oh well, we can read the edit history. It's the less-capable tropers who will suffer because of other less-capable tropers.
I used to be one of those "less-capable" tropers... but now I'm savvy enough with the website to get by.
I'm going to pull The Redeemer down. Komuro is family, and while I'm flattered he made an entry for it I'd like to "earn" my recommendation from someone I don't know on a personal level. I'm going to leave it up until tomorrow morning though.
Hide / Show RepliesSeems fair. That does sound perilously close to a self-rec. Here's hoping someone else likes it enough to put it back later.
Edited by Iaculus What's precedent ever done for us?. . . And it's gone. If someone else likes it enough to put it back, I gave enough time to save it so someone could.
Edited by rebel_cheeseI just had to yank my fic's rec again due to Komuro apparently putting it back up. If someone wants it up, remove Komuro's name please so it's not close to a self-rec. Thank you.
It's a misunderstanding. Troper Arcane Azmadi didn't see an edit reason and thought you just took down the rec which occasionally happens. I mentioned to check the Discussion page but guess I failed to take it back down.
Unclouded TJ: Taking Bunny-Ears Lawyer too literally.Ah, okay. I forgot to post an edit reason the first time. I made sure to write one the second time. Thanks for letting me know.
Yeah, sorry about that. There wasn't a listed reason for removing it on the edit, so I assumed someone had just taken it down because they didn't like it. Simple misunderstanding.
Always expect the worst and you can only be pleasantly surprised. It's okay. I just hope someone on TV Tropes likes it enough someday to put it up. XD
Should Daybreak Part I be in its own section or should it be merged with One Small Kindness? I felt that it should have its own page because it tells an epic story that doesn't require reading One Small Kindness to understand what's going on (despite being a sequel) but I don't really know.
And am I recommending The Redeemer too early in its run? It has 17 chapters up but it isn't clear where that story's going yet.
I haven't been on this site for a long time, I'm trying to remember how things work, sorry.
Hide / Show RepliesKeeping them separate if you feel they can be read independently and still both be good fics is perfectly fine (Just make sure to reference the prequel and sequel respectively).
I've seen fics recced with only 5 chapters, a good amount of one-shots, and a lot of dead fics so it doesn't matter how long it is as long as you feel you'd recommend it.
Also since you haven't been here in a while make sure to read the Fanfic Recommendations page for a couple new guidelines.
Edited by UncloudedTJ Unclouded TJ: Taking Bunny-Ears Lawyer too literally.Thank you. I'll definitely check that out before I make any other chances in Fanfic. I've done what you recommended regarding Daybreak too. :)
On removal of the following recommendation:
A Mother's Love by Lord of the Land of Fire (AU, character death)
- Recommended by SAMAS, Clendy82, Nitramy, Wint
- Pairings: NaruHina is this author's OTP. Believe it.
- Synopsis: Kushina Uzumaki survives childbirth by sheer force of will (and the timely arrival of Tsunade). Things change.
- Status: Complete
Having not read the fanfic that was removed I'm indifferent on the matter but I have to disagree with removing a fanfic rec that has four recommendations. If it only had one and had a lot of negative then you could put it up to a vote. Just because some people like it doesn't mean other will.
Not to sound off topic but fanfics that have a large hatedom and fandom are still recced on this site.
Edited by UncloudedTJ Unclouded TJ: Taking Bunny-Ears Lawyer too literally. Hide / Show RepliesCaellach Tiger Eye should just put in a comment why the story isn't worth reading and let the reader decide.
It should be a review, not a comment, but otherwise, I agree. No fic will ever be 100% loved, so different points of views are important.
My alignment is Chaotic Cute.
Hi! I put up two new entries for the want of a nail fanfic recs, but I don't see them showing up. Is that normal?
