The example as written was trying to apply early 2020s cultural values to a 1990s film. To the film's intended audience, "gypsy" wasn't seen as negatively as it is now.

I do have a history concerning "gypsy", both in that ATT query and in my participation in the Hot Gypsy Woman TRS thread.

I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.

Culturally Sensitive Adaptation, by its nature, doesn't care about post-release usage because it's judged from time of release.

(Preemptive note: this isn't an edit war. I removed the phrase "the gypsy slur" twice, but the second was purely a rewording because that phrase doesn't make grammatical sense.)
