Can that apply if the character is merely a Bit Character observing an (let's call it) In-Universe story and is not part of it? Conversational Troping?

I was wondering about that. Usually, WGS is meant for characters within the medium and not for the audience perceiving that work. Wrongly Spoiled By The Genre would be a fitting title for that type of work/audience connection (inspired by Spoiled by the Format). Or perhaps that's covered by Subverted Trope?
