As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
I'm absolutely against this. I think it's good that people can learn what the members of the community are like, show how they've influenced the wiki, and build some reputation based on the work here. I take pride in having inbound links and am irritated the Tropers/ namespace had its icon removed years ago. Since you're a good troper, I think you should have nothing to worry about.
Edited by Piterpicher Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods Of Incremental)^ We literally had a doxxing threat last night that forced someone to blank their troper page. I think it's more trouble than it's worth.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWhile that was an issue, it still feels like a one-time situation. At most, maybe let people restrict their tropers pages to non-logged in users as an option, not a requirement. I guess I'm just against trying to hide more and more parts of the wiki from readers (as that's what I felt when DethroningMoment/ and Tropers/ namespace were hidden).
Edited by Piterpicher Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods Of Incremental)I mean, I just don't consider Troper Pages to be things readers really need to see- they seem to be more of a personal/social thing to me and it always kinda creeps me out when I realize people are linking to troper pages off-site; feels weirdly intrusive. A privacy setting would be a good compromise.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI wouldn't want my page to be hidden by default, but I agree it should be an option.
Admittedly this idea was pretty knee-jerk. A privacy setting would work fine.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessBumping, although I think that it would be good to have it exist as a toggle-option, so Tropers can set their Troper page to be open or closed to non-logged in users/search engines if they wish.
It's always very uncomfortable when I realize my troper's page as well as other people's have inbound links. With recent issues going on, I think it'd be a smart idea to restrict visibility of troper pages to people who're logged in. There's zero reason why random internet strangers should be allowed to see our pages, especially if they have unsavory interests.
