The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
If detectives wear no gloves and this passes by without incident or comment, it's probably Artistic License of some measure. In-universe, it'd be a stupid thing for trained detectives to do. Out-of-universe, maybe the actors have a latex allergy or don't like the rigamarole of putting on and taking off gloves every take, so the director just lets it slide.
If the detectives wear no gloves over and over again without issue, but one day their luck runs out and this causes them to become murder suspects, I would usually see this placed under Reality Ensues. They thought they were safe behind Artistic License, but it came back to bite them.
If they usually wear gloves but decide to start manhandling evidence without them this one time with immediate consequences for their stupidity, it'd be unquestionably Idiot Ball.
^ Thx, Artistic License seems to cover it well, unfortunately there's not Artistic License — Forensics yet. I also found a related potential trope in the trope launch pad Doctors Never Wear Masks. Helmets Are Hardly Heroic seems applicable as well.
Hi, I'm looking for DNA contamination tropes. Examples I'm thinking of: Everybody except the detectives is wearing full body forensic suits, masks and gloves. Usually the forensic team is still collecting DNA samples or finger prints while the detectives go around and touch everything. This is however treated as something completely normal and almost never addressed. If the sample collected has more than one match they will only match police officers and no suspect. Otherwise they will have exactly one match, the suspect.
