I will not pretend his characterization wasn't controversial in The Last Jedi since it was. However that was in The Last Jedi. This is 24 years before that movie in-universe, plenty of time for him to become a cynical curmudgeon.

You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the mid

It seems more appropriate to put it under Author's Saving Throw.

Even though it's set 24 years earlier, and even though I haven't seen it, I completely understand the feeling that seeing a good portrayal of the character helps to take away some of the bitter aftertaste of TLJ.

By my understanding of protocol, DaFlabbagasta was wrong to delete a YMMV example just because they happened to disagree with it, but Ambaryerno was also wrong to re-add it twice, which is edit warring.

Regardless, the example is a valid opinion and should stay.

Pretty sure that Character Rerailment can't apply if the character was rerailed in a prequel. I agree with Rust Beard that Author's Saving Throw suits the entry better.

I agree that it's a valid opinion, though RustBeard and jjjj raise a point as to whether this counts as Character Rerailment or not. The Mandalorian is set before The Last Jedi; I'm not certain what the exact definition of CR is but if it involves reversing a change to a character's personality, then this doesn't count — Luke is still canonically going to develop into his Last Jedi personality.

EDIT: ^ Ninja'd. Also sounds more like Author's Saving Throw to me.

I moved the entry to Author's Saving Throw. I'd also like to note that King Clark deleted the (now restored) Win Back the Crowd example regarding Luke's characterization in TLJ; this part isn't an Edit War, but it does show that he's deleting YMMV entries because he disagrees with them.

It is tricky. On one hand you can't re-rail a character in a prequel as this is before their derailment. On the other hand it is a YMMV and to be fair, a sizable amount of viewers and fan's where unhappy with the grumpy old man who fan's felt was being unfairly blamed for Ben's fall. Is it a valid removal then should be removed, but if King Clark is deleting with no valid reason and seems to be going on a spree then should be questioned.

Seems like this discussion should continue on the discussion page.
