It may be a case where decay has set in and a split between the objective and subjective would be needed. Because there are games where the developers confirmed difficulty spikes and there's definitely the subjective where some players can feel a game got more difficult the longer they played it or in certain spots.

I'm asking this because the contents of Difficulty Spike tends to be subjective and varies on opinion. Several examples are written in a way where they're trying to enforce the editor's point of view of what is considered a Difficulty Spike rather than any objective facts, and some examples even go as far as to list Demonic Spiders, That One Level, That One Boss and even Nintendo Hard in one package.
