As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site. Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it. Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.

Important things to know:

  • We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
  • Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
  • Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.

Good suggestion, I can relate. For implementation I think it would be best as an in-window warning rather than a pop-up; many users already block those.

Honestly surprised something like this hasn't been implemented yet.

Actually, I think it would help in other ways, too. More than once, I've hit the back button by mistake in the middle of editing.

I think I have that same query a couple of years ago.

I've also found that it's very easy to accidentally swipe to the page you were on before editing. This feature suggested would be quite useful.

Hoping something like this gets implemented on the Trope Launch Pad and To-Do List as well... I've recently been doing large edits to work page drafts on the latter, and it's all too easy to close or even click on the work page link and leave it unsaved.

This sounds like such a basic feature, the browser gives a pop-up when you're leaving a page with an editing field open.

It is a pretty basic feature Amonimus, i just added it to the wysiwyg_source_editor.php and to_do_create.php. Do i need to add this feature to other editing screens or are these the only ones? Whenever i think i'm done with a task for TV Tropes, i always find other places on the site i need to do more code lol.

Thinking every textarea really should ask a user if they're leaving a page with unsaved text.

I recommend commenting pages server-side which elements they have (can post, requires login, is an article, has hard-coded text, has on-page ads, etc...) for quick reference.

This wishlist query has been fulfilled. Check the Changelog or the Wiki Talk Changelog Thread for a full list of recent updates.

Please remember to like and bump any new or old wishlist queries you think deserve attention so i know what the community needs me to work on moving forward.
