Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Consensus is that using the gendered redirect is fine. I would revert to the gendered redirect and link either here or to the discussion page in the edit reason.
Got it, thanks.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Good to know for my case, too. When I leaned not to pothole the trope name, I thought redirects were no exceptions either.
As I mentioned the last time this came up, I personally don't think redirects and potholes should be treated differently in trope lists, but it seems I'm in the minority on that. At the very least, redirects that only affect gender usually don't mess up the alphabetization, so that's something, I guess.
Out of the three examples, one of them is actually a Recap subpage, not a Characters subpage. I feel that means the gendered character exception should not apply and only the proper trope name (or US/Commonwealth alternative spelling) should be used, not an opposite gender alternative.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.^ That seems arbitrary, though. Why shouldn't it be used there?
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessBecause it isn't a subpage/folder about a specific character. Episodes don't have genders.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.^ But it's a character trope about the character featured. Just because it isn't on a character's page doesn't mean the trope is no longer about the character.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure Pureness^ Agreed with WarJay. The trope refers to the character, not the episode. "Episodes don't have genders" is a flawed argument.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.^It's not just flawed, it's absurd. Just because the example is on a recap page doesn't turn the old woman into an old man.
Just because you used a gendered term for the trope title doesn't make the trope about gender. The list of tropes are from the episode, not one character.
Edited by crazysamaritan Link to TRS threads in project mode here.About gender? No. About a character? Yes.
The trope being on the episode page instead of the character page doesn't magically make it a non-character trope.
You're being pretty unreasonable here, Crazy. Whether or not someone wants to use a gendered redirect on a recap page is not a big deal; it certainly isn't something to get upset over.

Hello. There seems to be a problem regarding the Calling the Old Man Out redirect for the female version, Calling the Old Woman Out. Past discussions have determined that redirects can be used for the appropriate gender. However, a relatively new troper, Ariachus, has been changing the redirects in the actual trope name listings regardless of which gender (while I agree with the pothole redirects). Here are a few examples.
While I’ve opened up a discussion about it to avoid an Edit War, what’s the best option to proceed in this case? Thanks.
