Add, delete, re-add. That is Edit War territory.

Also, aren't such examples supposed to go through a specific thread before being approved?

There is a cleanup thread, but no mandatory approval process (yet).

I haven't seen the movie, but if the character is portrayed sympathetically or is forgiven, they haven't crossed the MEH, period. It's a Trope, not an Audience Reaction (despite being YMMV) so how viewers feel doesn't matter, authorial intent does.

Ah, that'd probably be why they didn't respond to my PM on the subject.

The weird thing is, after I took it out, they sent me a PM saying they understood it was misuse and wouldn't put it back ... then put it back anyway.

Also, you can't downplay YMMV.

^ that's why it was deleted the first time. I thought maybe they'd discussed it until I saw the edit reasons

That's the thing — we did. Right after I deleted it the first time, they sent me a PM saying they understood it didn't fit the trope and wouldn't put it back.

So I don't get why they put it back.

I hope you're paraphrasing, as quoting PM discussions (unless mutually agreed) is verboten on this website.

^^ Right; what I meant was I thought the discussion was "The example's fine, but there are no 'downplayed' tropes," not "This isn't a MEH. " Which even then I thought re-adding it was odd, because as I've said that isn't the general response I hear about Marilyn.

In that case, they've ignored discussion on top of edit warring.

And what ^crazysamaritan said. P Ms shouldn't be shared or quoted on AST
