Gate Guardian (literal gate not required)
See also Threshold Guardian and MacGuffin Guardian, which often overlaps when the hero needs to enter said gate or take said macguffin uninvited.

Ah I see, thanks!
Whenever there is a moat in a fantasy genre, or even a lake by a castle, odds are there is a monster of some sort in it. Whether the giant squid at Hogwarts or the squiddy thing in front of the gates of Moria. If this doesn't already have a page, and from what I see there isn't one, I wouldn't mind making one if that's how this is done. Long time reader, first time poster, etc.
