Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

I don't see what's wrong with that example, since it says exactly when the spoiler happens, so people will know if it's something they're "ready" to uncover or not. But that's just my own tastes: I don't mind big blocks of white as long as the chapter/episode/season/level number/name is not hidden. The moderation team may not agree with me.
I don't see how that violates Self-Fulfilling Spoiler at all. It doesn't reveal anything other than it takes place at the epilogue.
Twilightgamer 92 decided to put the spoiler markup back on some entries, whiting them out again with the edit reason "Obvious spoiler not spoiler-tagged". Drope fixed some of the spoiler tagging, but not all of it.
Their edit history.
I have sent them a message regarding spoiler policy.
Bumping this since I'm at a point in the game were I can talk spoilers now.
The entire page should just be Spoilers Off due to its nature as a finale. Half the page will be whited out otherwise.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I would agree with that. I'm guessing that we should also add a hidden note about the page being spoilers off due to the sheer volume of spoilers.
Edited by gjjones He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself. If it does become Spoilers Off, then the note saying such should be visible for everyone, including folks who are just viewing/reading the page.
Edited by TheNerfGuyNyehehehe... Since I dont play the game. I will read the spoilery content. Thank you everyone >:D
Anyways, in all seriousness... Im unsure if we need to cut the spoiler tags because well, not everyone played it but if you want to cut it due to example violation... Eh, Im okay either way. Although the issue is how do we handle this example?
"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."We only have a few absolute rules on spoilers. Everything else is up to consensus, with some guidelines to prompt people to come to agreements.
Absolute rules:
- No tagging trope names or work names at the front of bullet points in lists.
- No tagging "above the line" content such as work or character descriptions.
- No tagging folder titles.
Guidelines:
- Avoid blanking the entirety of an example description. It is ugly as sin and someone still has to click it to get enough context to know if they wanted to read it to begin with.
- This is where writing around spoilers can be a good practice. Rather than hiding the whole example, give broad strokes, or say what happens but tag only specific clauses that give away the identity of the characters involved.
- Avoid self-fulfilling spoilers like tagging just a pronoun or character name in a sentence where context makes it obvious what's beneath the tag.
- If an article has so much tagged text that it begins to resemble a redacted Top Secret government document, then consider either trimming spoilers down to a bare minimum or stripping the tags and putting a Here There Be Spoilers warning at the top of the article.
A quick look at the page doesn't reveal a ridiculously excessive amount of spoiler tags, so I don't think making it Spoilers Off is necessary.
Certain sections of the page are totally whited out, though, and example writing is still a massive bitch for certain tropes. The tags also prevent me from potholing some text to Ship Tease.
Edited by Karxrida If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? The rule about not putting potholes under spoiler tags was removed from the Spoiler Policy when the site was redesigned a few months ago, since the new spoiler tags don't show links when you hover over them.
That said, if the entire tagged section is a link, then there's nowhere to click to hide the spoiler again.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Yesterday, I removed the spoiler markup from the All White Entries on VideoGame.Kingdom Hearts 3. Tropers.Ashlay whited-out a massive chunk of a sub-example with the following edit reason:
"most people haven't seen or played X, this needs context. and spoiler tags."
Here is the sub-entry in question:
From what I can tell, it violates Administrivia.Self Fulfilling Spoiler since it hides so much of the text. Is this level of markup kosher?
I have sent them a notifier regarding spoilers, but they have yet to respond. I'm asking here, too, to avoid an Edit War.
