Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold and Badbutt for most 90's examples aimed at a younger crowd.

'90s Anti-Hero is the super-edgy form best illustrated by pretty much every comic book in the 90's.

There's also Byronic Hero which is sort of a middle ground between the two.

Yeah, Misunderstood seems to be the one. Badbutt seems just like your average bully, '90s Anti-Hero it's too extreme and Byronic Hero it's not very fitting. The classic student in the '90s movies about classrooms who stand alone and are not very social. Again, like Matt from Digimon Adventure and Ash's Sceptile.

Badbutt doesn't have to be a bully. Fonzie from Happy Days is a quintessential example of a friendly badbutt, a roguish cool guy that we never see do anything too bad. Ash's Sceptile would be another good example, never was into Digimon so can't say about the other.
