What do you imagine a "sophisticated man" as?

I imagine them to be well-cultured, have a great knowledge of many things, and have a certain elegance in manners. They also don't have to really be sophisticated, only relatively more so than their peers. They could be somewhat normal and be part of a group that would make them the only sophisticated one. They could also be sophisticated and be part of a group of more normal people. I think Frasier from Cheers is a perfect example of that one.

I think the main things you're looking for are Gentleman and a Scholar, which covers the part about Frasier being the classy one in the crowd without being a complete jerk (usually), and Straight Man, which was Fraiser's typical role in the humor on Cheers: playing the serious straight man to a bar full of wise guys and loonies.

Surrounded by Idiots can apply to these situations, too. A number of jokes revolved around Fraiser being the one to point out flaws in some Zany Scheme, giving advice that the recipient totally mangled, learning that once again the answer to Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering? is "No.", or just facepalming over Cliff's latest Little Known Fact.

He also had quite the Gentleman Snarker and Sophisticated as Hell streak, too.
