Shout outs have to be intentional, so if it was not, then it's not one.
I know that; the Shout-Out page says just that, but surely this isn't a completely insignificant happening, right?
Check out my Pantheon Search Database prototype!Maybe? But I don't know the comic or the webcomic that is being claimed to be based off of, so unless you can somehow say (or have the writer say) that it was intentional, it should not be claimed as such.
Edited by ArctimonIf the creator says it's not an intentional Shout-Out, it's not one. Coincidental similarities occur uh, all the time because they're built on the same tropes. You do a comic with an Action Prologue showing an encounter between Arch-Enemies, one of whom, via Bait-and-Switch, is actually crushing on the other. Every so often, it bears close similarity to something that already exists.
Edited by TabsIf the creator says they did not intend to make a reference, then it's a Denied Parody.
I've noticed that the beginning pages of this comic is an almost beat-for-beat mimicry of the first chapter of Mage & Demon Queen, something that the creator has noticed and has said was completely unintentional. Is there a unique term for that, or is it merely a Shout-Out, or is it not a Shout-Out at all?
