Frankly, if it's only expecting the reader to take the writer's word for it that the writing is bad in some unspecified way, then coupled with how you say that you haven't seen general complaints about the writing, I'd personally be in favour of removing the line. Maybe the Sean Paul double bullet example below could do with some elaboration and stay.
