People also think she has an ugly face and we all know a female character not being eye candy is reason enough to despise her.
Trans rights are human rights.I never understood why people said that, tbh? She's adorable most of the time, and a cutie at her worst.
:smug:Yeah, I don't get it either. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Trans rights are human rights.I think dislike of the handler comes from more. There's her being reckless a couple times, but there's also her often blaberring to say nothing of value when you're not advancing the main quest that gets burned into your head REAL QUICK. I still remember to this day the couple sentences she says when you start the high rank quest and you're supposed to collect tracks for the sakura rathian because SHUT UP, I have 36 other things to do before getting to that !
There's also the fact the plot ostensibly wants her to be the brains and the one who explains the plot, but the way the plot is conveyed makes it feel like she's paraphrasing the obvious and everyone treats it as a great discovery, resulting in a lot of captain obvious exposition. "Elder dragons are migrating here because of an unexplained phenomenon, so the zora magdaros must be here because of that too !" Y-Yeah. We know that. Might be the french translation aggarvating things up, for this one, but I doubt it.
I don't really minded her character design, but I did found it weird that her model sometimes gave off the impression she had constant massive eyebags.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."She never bothered me at all. But apparently I just have a higher threshold of tolerance than most gamers because I can't think of an "Annoying Video Game Helper" whose reputation I didn't find to be vastly overblown.

Trans rights are human rights. To be fair, despite everything I said, back when I played I treated it more as a joke to hate on her than something that geniunely annoyed me. (Except that bit about the voicelines. This one was geniunely annoying.) It's just that as time went on she never really left a good impression on me and the joke stopped being a joke.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."That and people are also attracted to her for two reasons, in contrast to the Handler having a modest outfit and plain face as noted above.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaThe Handler never bothered me either. Every character in World is basically some one-note cartoon character, and since the game isn't going for a serious tone or really trying to tell a story, I can live with it.
As for the matter of looks, I'm totally on board with characters being relatively plain-looking (I say 'relatively' because she's *far* from ugly), especially in a Japanese game, which in my experience tend to lean towards fanservice fairly heavily, and because it does get a bit tiring when everyone in a game, or any media, is a stunner. That said, I couldn't help noticing her legs in her Iceborne outfit ¬_¬
Might get me a Switch just for Rise, lol. Plus other games on there too.
Anyone who has played the demo, does the Greatsword still have the shoulder tackle move? That's a pretty big part of my playstyle.
That it does, plus a new dodge move that moves you a good distance while sheathing and boosting your next attack
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaSweet, thanks for the info. Love the shoulder tackle, almost as much as the TCS. Especially when I've broken monster parts or just slain them with the tackle, lol.
I had played the demo several times. Only managed to defeat Mizutsune once, so I'll definitely have to readjust my hunting style when the game comes out (since I never played World, I got too used to the older games' scheme).
If Tetsucabra is in, I'd really love to see the subspecies as well. Berserk was one of my favorite subspecies in 4U!
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Here's the trailer featured in today's Nintendo Direct:
We get to see two new monsters, Rakna-Kadaki and Almudron. We also see some returning monsters: Basarios, Diablos, Volvidon, Anjanath, and Rajang.
Apex Monsters are also in this game, though I do not think they're the same type of Apex Monsters from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
Apparently the Apex in Rise is called Nushi in Japanese, while the Apex in 4 Ultimate was called Extreme State. I wonder why they're reusing the Apex title for something different. Couldn't they call it something else like "Alpha" instead?

Yeah, I read about the "Nushi" thing as well. I do kind of like how "Apex" sounds, so I'm not too bothered by the localization reuse.
Anjanath was already confirmed to be in due to its armor being shown beforehand. So glad to see Rajang and Diablos back. Basarios? Ehhh, I hope at least to see Rubbas too.
The new Temnoceran is so freaking cool.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Nyehhhhh. Nerscylla was bad enough. I do not like the new spider. Brrrrr.
I never did play much of the demo for Rise, and my hype for it, well, never really built up. This is at least in part because I have a bit of a backlog to work through, and other games coming up that I'm also interested in, so I'm not sure I have the time for something like Monster Hunter at the moment.
The Japanese Monster Hunter Rise Twitter account posted a tweet showcasing a turf war between Tetranadon and Goss Harag.

So far the new monsters look pretty dope. My favorites so far are Bishaten (awesome name, no less), Magnamalo, Rakna-Kadaki and Almudron (another cool name).
My only concern is that we have heard of nothing about subspecies. I know they're a controversial topic among MH fans, but there are subspecies I have come to love, such as Purple Ludroth, Sand Barioth, Stygian Zinogre, Berserk Tetsucabra and Shrouded Nerscylla. The fact that Green Nargacuga, Sand Barioth, Jade Barroth and Steel Uragaan were absent in W/I despite their nominate species appearing makes me worry that something similar may happen in Risem not helped by Sand Barioth being potentially retconned out of existence due to the Frostfang variant.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Why would the Sand Barioth be "retconned out of existence" by the existence of the Frostfang Barioth? Even if it doesn't appear in any near future games, it doesn't mean that the subspecies never existed in the first place.
I just thought that because no monster before it had featured a subspecies and a variant at the same time. Notice how monsters like Kushala Daora, Deviljho, Rajang never had subspecies, whether before or after their respective variants. The only in-universe explanation would be that Sand Barioth doesn't inhabit the New World (at least not the Wildspire Waste).
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300If you include monsters from Monster Hunter Online, then there have been monsters that have both a subspecies and a variant. Monoblos, for example, has White Monoblos as a subspecies and Shattered Monoblos as a variant. Basarios has Ruby Basarios (subspecies) and Crystal Basarios (variant).
I'm still not seeing how a monster having a subspecies and a variant means one of them is potentially getting retconned out of existence.
Yeah, the handler hate seemed way out of proportion. And the constant fat jokes because she likes food were...concerning.
