Should aldo be noted the English version of Path of Tadiance added Ship Tease between them likely for that very reason. An easy mistake to make so I can't blame them.

[up]Admittedly, localization wouldn't have anticipated a sequel or at least certain things in localization gets screwed up. Like Easy mode.

@Vampire Technicallly, once you beat the boss, I think the game ask for a save but won't actually save over the file so you could still do post-game content like the paralogues that were meant to be played after beating the boss as well as DLC. I'm guessing the reason why it's already available because they were made periodically in the Japanese version but were made available in English version from the get go. I'm not exactly sure.

I've playing some Conquest with only Female characters. Oh boy, it was a doozy. I had little problems with Chapter 9, but 7, 8, and 10 were some tough ones. I actually tested Lunatic and found it's almost impossible to play Lunatic with that kind of challenge.

[down]Gerome, maybe? I don't know, I don't know all of the kids's supports... save for few that were brought up.

Let's see, Chrom's most popular pairings are probably Robin and Olivia. Robin has Chrom, Lucina, and Tharja. Lucina has Robin. Any of the kids standouts for her?

Corrin has uh... Azura or Silas? I don't think either Corrin has a dominant couple.

Speaking of Female Conquest, I considered trying Female Birthright again. I tried it last year but I feel like doing it again.

Anyways, here's the list of the females:

  • F Corrin (+Mag/-Def)
  • Rinkah
  • Sakura
  • Azura
  • Hana
  • Mozu
  • Setsuna
  • Hinoka
  • Orochi
  • Oboro
  • Kagero
  • Reina
  • Scarlet
  • Felicia

Female kids include:

  • Midori
  • Sophie
  • Caeldori
  • Selkie
  • Rhajat
  • Mitama

Ironically, I had a hard time on Chapter 6 because it's almost hard to keep everyone alive with just the female which is basically F Corrin, Rinkah, Sakura, and Azura. But since the Hoshidan save Sakura have no exp., I used them temporily like Ryoma killing Leo since Leo and the Cav could round F Corrin. Just needed to get the girls some level before Ryoma ends Xander.

Also, I need to remember to A supp. F Corrin and Kaze for one event.

A Nd this is all on Lunatic. It's still doable because you at least start with a party.

Chrom's destined partner is Sully I will not accept any other pairing. -waves around a sharp stick-

I will say Chrom's lack of options in the love department is incredibly disheartening. I can understand Cordelia I guess, since her unrequited love angle is a big part of her appeal for some, but why not Cherce? Miriel? Tharja? Panne? Libra? All of those have interesting angles you could take a romance route but they don't bother taking the challenge.

Let's see, Chrom's most popular pairings are probably Robin and Olivia. Robin has Chrom, Lucina, and Tharja. Lucina has Robin. Any of the kids standouts for her?

I want to say Sumia is also on Chrom's FPC but people are really against her. Robin has a bunch from both genders but Chrom seems to be F!Robin most popular. M!Robin still has a crap ton regardless but the ones I see the most are Lissa, Cordelia, Tharja, Tiki, Sumia, & Lucina. Even though the community is very vocal against Robin X Lucina. Lucina other popular pairings are Gerome & Inigo, even though I personally think she doesn't really that much chemistry with the rest of the boys other than Yarne. Although for some reason she's frequently ship with Severa, never knew understood that one.

Corrin has uh... Azura or Silas? I don't think either Corrin has a dominant couple.

Not necessarily true. M!Corrin's FPC seems to be Azura but Felicia frequently pops up. F!Corrin on other hand has Leo, Takumi, Xander, occasionally Ryoma, Jakob, Silas, & Kaze. Slightly bother that she's frequently hooking up with brothers but hey it's not actually incest.

Respectively from both genders Azura & Silas seems to be most popular same sex pairing. They still should've been the Gay Option.

[up]

Sully does have good chemistry.

Cherche isn't viable because she's introduce in the time skip & Libra isn't a Gay Option just like how the Avatar isn't.

As for the rest, I'm mostly assuming they were just lazy to program the rest. But hey we'll go the extra mile for that dancer you just met today.

Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, chapter 1: Marth Embarks.

Initial thoughts: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light is an ambitious, complex game that battles against the contraints of the NES hardware.

Any fan will tell you that the interface has aged poorly. That's true, but this is at least partly because the developers had to find a way to present a whole lot of information using a NES controller. They actually did a pretty good job of it, given the equipment they had to work with, and this control system is clearly the basis on which the modern games are built.

Starting units are iconic. There's Marth himself, Princess Shiida, Cain and Abel, the original Jagen, and also Draug and Gordin who nobody seems to care about. They're decent but are all at level 1, so have yet to become spectacular. Shiida in particular is super-mobile but lacks strength; however, she can use silver weapons right from the start, which is a plus. To exploit this, I immediately had Jagen give her his silver lance, then used him as an item mule to buy new gear at the shop and deliver it to the characters who would be using it. Mechanically, rather than weapon skills tracking seperately for each weapon, and this stat increasing every time a weapon is used, there is a single numerical Weapon Level stat that, like all others, has a random chance of increasing on level up; if a charactr is capable of using a weapon, they can use any weapon of that level or lower.

The story gets moving, as it often does, with text boxes. Unlike what we've come to expect, here it's frames portraits in the middle of the screen with a square dialogue box to the side. Marth, the exiled prince of Altea, is living in the kingdom of Talys with his brave knights. On this day, Shiida flies in to beg his aid, because pirates have come from Galder and seized the castle. Naturally, the pirates are no match for the Altean knights.

One thing completely absent is the ability to see units' move an attack ranges. The only way to plan out a move is to manually count squares from the unit in question, which does make it hard to tell where to position people; you really don't want Shiida to end a turn in range of an enemy archer. Experience is also weird; rather than being based on respective levels, experience for a fight is simply amount of damage inflicted, and experience for a kill is a fixed amount for each enemy unit.

Also strange is that while any character can visit a house, only Marth can visit a village. One homeowner actually brings this up, telling me that "The villages opened their doors to the prince. Get to them before the bandits do". And sure enough, as soon as the battle begins, there is a thief standing before the ruins of a village. This is an attempt to show unit abilities through gameplay, and while I didn't initially pick up on this placement, I can certainly see the intention.

I began by sending Cain and Abel south to deal with the thief. Marth visited the intact village and received 10,000 G, while Draug, Gordin, and Shiida guarded the pass between the houses. Gordin proved one of my best units, nabbing several kills and actually managing to level up. Marth and Draug took the north coast, by the fort, to hold off a trio of pirates who were walking on water; all three attacked Marth, but proved no match for him, and he levelled up here.

While Cain fought more often, Abel managed to get more kills, thus gaining experience faster. In the end, however, each managed to gain a level. Shiida, alas, failed to get a level due to missing the boss.

In the southwest, there is another village, where I recruited Wrys. Sweet, a healer! Too bad healers only gain experience by taking axes to the face, and not by healing. Still, healers are always useful. A homeowner told me about Galder, and how Gomer has turned it into a pirate den. Well, looks like I'll be taking the fight to the pirates.

And then Marth killed the final boss with a critical hit and seized the castle. Shiida's father thanked me and sent my little army north to Galder, promising I would be joined by Ogma upon arrival. He also told me that the pirates are allied with Doluna, and that some fighters are prisoners or have been press-ganged into fighting for Doluna against their will. Well, I see that even back then there was a real effort to tell a story through gameplay.

New units: Wrys.

Promotions: Marth, Cain, Abel, Gordin.

On to chapter 2.

Since you brought up NES Shadow Dragon, I found this blog that shows a bit of the instruction manual.

Why is Gordin so smug in that game.

The manual art of Jagen looks just like my late grandad.

Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, chapter 2: The Pirates of Galder.

Team Marth reaches Galder, where they are joined by Ogma, Barst, Bord, and Cord, a quartet of mercenaries (though only Ogma is a Mercenary) loyal to Shiida. Barst, Bord, and Cord are all Fighters, Barst at level 5 and the others at level 3.

This map appears to be been structured to introduce the player to choke points. There are a whole lot of flowing rivers crossed by one-square-wide bridges, meaning that non-flying and non-Pirate units have to queue up to attack.

I began by sending Wrys to a local house, where the homeowner told me that one of the pirates, Daros, was looking to leave his life of crime and join up with Marth. Daros was on an island to the north in a group of Pirates and Theives, so I sent Marth in that direction, backed by Shiida, Cain, and Abel. Draug guarded the southwest bridge of my starting island, and the Fighters took the northwest.

At the start of the enemy turn, Daros walked up to Marth and initiated the conversation himself. Woo, now I have a Pirate on my side! The others attack, but prove no match for my guys. Meanwhile, a force approaches from the west.

On turn 2, I mop up the the pirates and send Draug north to support Team Ogma. On turn 3, Marth and Gordin take out the the last Archer and a Thief on the north island, while Shiida, Cain, Abel, and Daros make their way west to where the enemy Fighters are about to attack.

Turn 4, I decide to use an exploit from the blog that mariovssonic linked to. I have Marth and Gordin move west to join the rest of the troops while Wrys sits tight in the fort. Battle commences on the north central island. This plays out over a couple of turns, and the Altean and Talisian forces emerge injured by triumphant, during which Shiida finally manages to level up, and Cain gains another level.

The exploit works; the last Thief attacks Wrys, who gains 40 EXP each battle and is fully healed by the fort. This drags on until after all the other enemies have died until Wrys gets to level 10, and wow his growths are bad. Several of his levels were completely empty, and he never gained in more than one stat on a level up. It's pretty obvious he's not intended to be anything other than a healer.

Meanwhile, Draug moves to the west and draws out a Hunter by the name of Castor, who apologises to the princess, saying he really needs the money. Say, I have a princess! Shiida talks to Castor, who explains that his mother is sick and he can't afford the medicine. Shiida, being a saintly maiden, gives him her own bag of gold despite his being a traitor; Castor, overcome with gratitude, vows to serve her for the rest of the game, and thanks to some good positioning takes out the other Hunter. Slightly north of this, Marth visits another village, where a villager asks him to save a girl named Lena, who has gone missing in the Devil Mountains. He gives me 5,000 G to help, which is good, because there's a shop in the south selling hammers and hand axes.

With the axe users all properly equipped, I send in Castor to soften up Gomer, but he gets a lucky crit and weakens him enough for Marth to kill in one blow. Then I send Shiida east, where the final Thief is still harassing Wrys, and wait for him to get to level 10 before finally having Shiida kill the Thief to gain that sweet 40 EXP.

Upon seizing the castle, the a villager tells me that to get to Aurelis, the only country other than Talys to hold out against Doluna, I need to cross the Devil Mountains. Say, that's where you said Lena was last seen! He warns me that there are fierce bandits in the mountains, and to be especially careful of a man named Nabarl. Right, off to the mountains we go!

New units: Ogma, Barst, Bord, Cord, Daros, Castor. Level gains: Marth, Shiida, Cain.

On Chrom's limited romance options, my guess is that he can't smooch Nowi or Panne because they didn't want Lucina to have Schrodinger's scales or rabbit ears.

I'm playing Fire Emblem Warriors since I have a switch now and the game only has four axe users compared to over a dozen sword users so can I just say Edelgard is absolutely guaranteed to be a mainstray of Fire Emblem crossover lineups for many years to come?
I'd note that Hector being a popular axe lord didn't get him into Warriors. And Bord, Cord, and Barst (who look curiously like Richter doing his axe throw a lot) beat him into Smash.

Even though I personally think that Fire Emblem Warriors is the best Warrior game I played, I can't help but be disappointed on how the game turned out. Especially when I compare to Hyrule Warriors. That would give away the Marth disguise so it's understandable they didn't do that. That, and marrying your main character with Nowi would cause more issues.

I just want new maps. They keep reusing the story ones it's getting boring. And all the archers play the exact same. Would like to address that issue first before I request characters from the other series.
